Sophie, Countess of Wessex banned by Royal Family from doing what Zara Tindall does

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 55, has been married to Prince Edward, 56, since 1999. Like other royals, she has had to follow protocol during public appearances. Speaking to Express.co.uk, a stylist explained why Zara Tindall, 39, does what Sophie is banned from doing.

When Sophie tied the knot with Prince Edward, she quickly took on a working royal role.

Since then, the mother-of-two has worked on behalf of the Queen at engagements all over the world.

There are many rules and protocols that must be followed by members of the Royal Family.

In public, the Countess of Wessex will often adhere to royal style rules.

This includes not wearing outfits that are too revealing or sporting heels that are excessively high.

Choosing skirts and dresses is also said to be preferred over trousers for royal ladies, which Sophie will often do.

No matter what she wears, the royal will bring attention to different brands and it may be speculated she has been given pieces for free.

However, it is unlikely Sophie has taken free gifts over the years as senior royals are reportedly banned from doing so.

While this rule is followed by many senior members of the family, an expert explained why Zara Tindall does not follow this rule.

Zara is the daughter of Princess Anne and granddaughter of the Queen.

Despite being a big part of the family, she has collaborated with brands for advertising campaigns in the past.

This could be as she is not a working royal, despite sometimes appearing at royal events.

Her career choices could be why she is allowed to take on promotion roles, according to stylist Melita Latham.

She told Express.co.uk: “As a non-serving royal, Zara can also accept gifts of clothes from designers, whilst the serving cannot.

“Although given the inherited wealth of all, it’s unlikely seen as a perk.”

Zara has also been able to slack on style rules followed by royals including Sophie.

Melita continued: “Whilst not a serving royal, at events she attends Zara gathers all the attention of a royal with very few of the drawbacks.

“Her dress sense is – of all the royals – quite perfect.

“She can wear rather more daring, sometimes higher hemmed dresses, while also enjoying the casual slinky top and jeans. Her formal wear is exquisite yet relaxed.”
