Searches for the phrase “Camilla necklace” in the UK exploded by 2,400 percent on May 6, according to a new study. This is according to an analysis of Google search data by customised jewellery experts at Glamira, which found that Queen Camilla’s style at King Charles’s Coronation was the most popular, even beating Kate Middleton’s jewellery tribute to Princess Diana.

The phrase received the highest number of searches in comparison to other items of jewellery worn by the Royal Family at the King’s Coronation.

Nearly 16,000 tweets in the past week have mentioned the Queen Consort’s jewellery alone.

At the ceremony, royal fans saw an abundance of extravagant jewellery on display by the Royal Family.

Kate Middleton’s diamond and south sea pearl earrings were worn to pay tribute to Princess Diana which saw an 800 percent increase for “Kate earrings”.

Meanwhile, “Kate tiara” witnessed a rise of 1,400 percent. In fact, Princess Charlotte wore a matching headpiece to Kate, which led to searches for “Princess Charlotte tiara” exploding by 1,250 percent.

However, one piece that caught the public’s eye was Queen Camilla’s necklace after experiencing a surge of 2,400 percent on Google.

Known as the Coronation Necklace, the piece dates back to 1858 when it was first presented to Queen Victoria and was worn by several Queens for their coronations, including the late Queen Elizabeth.

The necklace holds 25 graduated brilliant-cut diamonds and features a 22.48-carat pendant known as the Lahore Diamond.

It even has a pair of earrings to match. However, Camilla wore her own diamond drop earrings instead of the matching pair.

This sparked interest in Britons leading to an increase of 1,700 percent in searches for “Camilla earrings”.

Queen Camilla probably wore her own earrings to the Coronation because her ears are famously unpierced.

The matching Coronation earrings that Queen Elizabeth wore at her Coronation in 1953 were likely made for pierced ears.

A spokesperson from Glamira commented on the findings for Express.co.uk.

They said: “There were over 20 million Britons tuning in to watch the King’s Coronation on Saturday.

“Therefore, there were bound to be many people admiring the glamorous jewellery worn by the Royal Family.”

According to the experts, the results of their study were surprising in terms of the most popular royal jewels.

They explained: “It’s interesting to see that the most popular item of jewellery from the day was the necklace worn by Camilla.

“This was despite the controversy surrounding her relationship with King Charles.

“On top of this, Camilla’s necklace proved more popular than Kate’s earrings which were once Diana’s, otherwise known as the People’s Princess.

“Perhaps it is a sign that the public is more accepting of the relationship, particularly now that she has been crowned the Queen Consort.”
