Queen Camilla stepped out for a solo engagement in Newmarket today where she with employees and students at the British Racing School.

The royal was a picture of elegance in a floral dress and cropped blue jacket.

While the outfit was not dissimilar to her signature style, the 75-year-old was sure to include a touching tribute to her love of horses.

Styled on her left lapel was a dazzling silver horseshoe-shaped brooch. The appropriate piece of royal jewellery not only looked lovely against her pale blue jacket but holds a deeper meaning too.

According to The Court Jeweller, the brooch is a history-rich heirloom loved by Queen Camilla.

The royal jewel expert said: “The horseshoe-shaped brooch features the name ‘Minoru’ spelt out in diamond letters, interspersed with round sapphires and rubies.”

Its history dates back to the age of King Edward VII, who owned Minoru – one of the most successful Thoroughbred racehorses owned by the monarch.

1909 the horse won the Derby, making Edward VII the first reigning monarch to champion the famed Epsom race.

To celebrate the occasion, the King commissioned several pieces of jewellery in the form of “special” diamond-encrusted scarf pins showing a horse and jockey.

Another statement jewel was made for Danny Maher, the jockey who rode Minoru to victory and is thought to be the brooch that Camilla wore today.

The Court Jeweler explained that this became known as the “Maher Pin”, and features sapphires and rubies to represent King Edward’s racing colours.

The Queen also re-styled some of the finest pieces in her summer wardrobe for the occasion, including a powder blue suit jacket and floral dress. Staying true to her signature style, the dress featured a collared neckline, a-line skirt and knee-length hemline.
