Prince Philip funeral latest – 'Very hurt' Prince Harry grilled on future during crunch talks with Charles and William

04/20/2021

PRINCE Harry was reunited with brother William for two hours after the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral — sparking hopes of peace between them.

They joined dad Charles for the first time since Harry and wife Meghan’s Oprah US TV interview threatened to tear the family apart.

Charles had crunch talks with his warring sons after the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral — and insiders say it is just what Philip would have wanted.

The three met up away from the cameras following Saturday’s televised service. They remained together for two hours at Windsor Castle as they mingled with family members on its Quadrangle.

It is understood Charles and William grilled Harry on his role within the Royal Family as the pair prepare for a crunch summit to decide the future of the Monarchy in the coming weeks.

It comes as it was claimed Harry wrote Prince Charles a "deeply personal note" ahead of his homecoming for Philip's funeral – but the father and son have reportedly not yet patched up their fractured relationship.

Prince Harry touched base with Charles before he returned to the UK, where he would be reunited with his family for the first time since he left royal life last year.

Their relationship had "hit rock bottom" in the wake of Harry and his wife Meghan Markle's explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey – while his grandfather lay seriously ill in hospital.

Charles is still "very hurt" by the appearance, which rocked the royal family amid allegations of bullying and racism, the Daily Mirror reports.

Sources close to the Duke said he has been "forced to write letters" after a "complete communication breakdown" with his father.

The notes are said to have "outlined his reasons for leaving" his position to live in California with mum-to-be Meg and their one-year-old son Archie, while promising to "respect the institution".

QUEEN ‘NOT IN MOOD FOR HARRY SUMMIT’

THE Queen is “not in the mood” for a summit with Prince Harry and William this week as she “hates confrontation”, a royal expert has claimed.

Ingrid Seward, author of Prince Philip Revealed, said the monarch’s children have a “tough time” getting her to talk about “anything other than dogs or horses”.

Prince Charles will lead talks on the future of the Royal Family following Philip’s death, but has made clear that William must be consulted for each stage as any significant changes will be incorporated into his son’s reign.

It came after the Prince of Wales held private talks with his two sons following Saturday’s service, which saw Harry and Will reunited face-to-face for the first time in a year.

The feuding brothers, who were “united by grief” after Philip’s death, spoke after the ceremony and were seen walking side by side away from St George’s Chapel – having been deliberately separated during the procession an hour earlier.

PRINCE WILLIAM BLASTS ‘DAMAGE’ THE EUROPEAN SUPER LEAGUE WOULD CAUSE

This is the first time that the Prince has spoken out since his grandfather, Prince Philip‘s, funeral on Saturday.

“Now, more than ever, we must protect the entire football community – from the top level to the grassroots – and the values of competition and fairness at its core,” the Duke of Cambridge wrote to Twitter today.

HARRY WROTE CHARLES ‘DEEPLY PERSONAL NOTE (CONTINUED…)

It was a move that sent cracks through their kinship and has left their relationship "extremely frosty".

"Truth be told, Harry didn’t really know what to expect before he came home, which is why he reached out before seeing everyone," the royal source revealed.

"He wrote a deeply personal note to his dad to try and set things straight but tensions are still running high and things haven’t exactly ironed out the way he had hoped. There had been a kind of unspoken agreement between everyone to park whatever has been on each person’s mind, and solely concentrate on supporting the Queen ahead of Prince Philip’s funeral.

"The feeling inside the camp was that it wasn’t the time nor the place to go over things, especially at such an emotional time for everybody involved."

Harry's suggestion that Charles and his brother Prince William were "trapped" in the institution and "don't get to leave" like he did, "outraged" them both according to palace insiders.

QUEEN DROVE HERSELF TO QUIET SPOT (CONTINUED..)

Yesterday, a day after the funeral, Queen Elizabeth II drove to Frogmore Gardens – a place she loves and where she often walks her dogs.

The spot is just a few minutes from Frogmore Cottage, where Prince Harry has been staying after travelling to the UK for his grandfather’s funeral.

Sources say visiting Frogmore regularly will help the Queen deal with her grief after Prince Philip‘s death.

The gardens are one of her favourite parts of the estate to walk her puppies, dorgi Fergus and corgi Muick.

According to sources, she is likely to drive to Frogmore on her birthday too to enjoy nature and walk her dogs.

    LEAKED CONVERSATIONS (CONTINUED…)

Vanity Fair claims William spent some “time alone” with Harry walking around the Queen’s private gardens after the service on Saturday.

It also claims Prince Charles is “desperate” for a reconciliation with his son while William is more “hesitant”. A source added: “William needs to know he can trust Harry and that private conversations will stay private.”

The source also said William and other family members “have some very strong feelings about some of the things Harry and Meghan said on Oprah”.

They added: “Things need to be talked through, but this was not the occasion and everyone respected that.

“It’s going to take more than a wake to sort things out, but this is hopefully a start.”

    LEAKED CONVERSATIONS

It comes after reports that Prince William needs to know any future talks with his brother will stay private after Gayle King revealed their family chats weren't productive.

According to Vanity Fair, one family friend said Harry was met with frostiness from his relatives after the 90-minute explosive chat.

It is thought the family were upset that Meghan’s pal Ms King revealed Harry had spoken to his brother and Prince Charles after the interview – but that the talks were “unproductive”.

One source said: “Harry was out in the cold after Oprah and then when details of private family conversations were leaked to Gayle King it was the final straw.

“Some family members cannot believe what he has done, but there is a feeling that with the Duke’s death and the family coming together, conversations need to be had.”

PRINCE HARRY HOLDS TALKS WITH WILLIAM AND CHARLES (CONTINUED…)

"Obviously after the worldwide fallout of the Oprah interview trust has to be rebuilt," a senior royal insider told the Mail Online.

"There was no official wake after the funeral, but Charles, William and Harry took the opportunity to speak and catch up face to face after many months apart.

"They were only able to spend a short time together outdoors given Covid restrictions and also without staff, including senior courtiers, overhearing what was being said.

"It was important to Charles and William that they were both there together.

"It means nothing spoken about can be misconstrued in the future."
