Mum hits back after being shamed for her 'inappropriate' tankini by another woman at baby swim class

A MUM has hit back after she was shamed for wearing an “inappropriate” tankini to a baby swimming class.

Taking to Reddit she explained that she had been taking her six-month-old to aquababies.

She revealed that most of the other parents in the water are dads, while the mums watch, but her husband is unable to attend due to work, so she is one of the few mums who get into the water to participate.

The mum wrote: "Today, there was a new baby at swim class! He looked to be about the same age as my son..

"As the father got into the pool, he said hi and I returned the greeting. I then asked him how old his son was and we made about 30 seconds of small talk before the class started.

"After class was over and my son and I were leaving the pool area, this man’s wife approached me and said, 'you know, if you are going to continue to swim with husbands and fathers, you should really dress more modestly.”

The mum shared a photo of her swimsuit, a high-necked black and white tankini that shows off a small amount of stomach.

She continued: “You could see maybe 3 inches of my stomach, and not that it matters, but I am completely flat chested with no butt, so it’s not like my voluptuous curves were a distraction or anything."

The woman said she was "caught completely off guard" and just replied, "thank you for your opinion," but she later asked a friend for her take on the situation.

"Personally, I find this ridiculous and an insecurity problem, however, I was telling another mom friend about it and she said that maybe I should reconsider my bathing suit moving forward," she said.

"That I should invest in a one-piece (which I personally don’t like because I have a long torso and no curves, so most of the time they don’t fit right, and when they do, I don’t pull them off well).

"She then continued that she would be uncomfortable with a swim class that had other women who were showing off too much skin to her husband and children."

Fellow Redditors were not only outraged by the fellow mum’s complaint, but also of the friend’s advice.

"That tankini is absurdly modest," commented one person. "She really thinks her husband is going to lose control over a peek of your belly button? I think you should invest in something much sexier for next class."

Another agreed adding: "This isn’t about swimsuits, it’s about territoriality.

"These women see you in the pool with their husbands and feel jealous. Instead of getting in the pool themselves, they’d rather make it your problem. Don’t let them. Wear what you’re comfortable in."
