MEGHAN Markle has been wearing a £450 'evil eye' necklace on her royal tour in South Africa this week – to ward off jealousy and keep her family safe.

The Duchess of Sussex, 38, wore the 18-carat chain, by Turkish-inspired jewellery designer Alemdara, as she gave a speech at the Nyanga township in Cape Town on Monday.

According to the designer's website: "As per Ottoman legend, an evil eye on your person wards off jealousy from others."

It adds the symbol should "offer the wearer protection and luck" and helps "dispel negative thoughts and energy".

Meghan, husband Prince Harry, 35, and four-month-old baby Archie will visit South Africa, Botswana, Angola and Malawi during their 10-day Africa tour.

An Alemdara spokesman confirmed Meghan was wearing their design but refused to comment further.

They told the Daily Mail: "We are very pleased to see the Duchess of Sussex wearing one of our necklaces, but we simply don't comment on our individual customers."

The Altan necklace is hand-crafted, yellow gold and adorned with white diamonds. Alemdara was founded by former Tatler journalist Mariella Tandy.

This is not the first time Meghan has worn the evil eye.

She donned a £250 rose gold ring by Turkish brand Kismet in December, in her first public appearance after dad Thomas Markle claimed he'd been "frozen out".

It featured a hand symbol with the eye in its palm, which is said to protect the wearer from "malicious stares".

Meghan is thought to enjoy using jewellery to send coded messages.

Back in 2016, before the pair confirmed their romance, she posted a picture on Instagram wearing a blue and white bracelet identical to Harry's one.

She was later pictured wearing a necklace with the letters 'H' and 'M'.

Yesterday we revealed Harry was trying to ‘suppress his emotions’ at the Angola landmines as he walked in Princess Diana’s footsteps.
