Kiko Kostadinov’s fall 2021 collection, designed by Laura and Deanna Fanning, references Lauren Elkin’s “Flâneuse,” and vintage Japanese street-style magazines. The duo is obsessed with the brave women Elkin describes as walking big cities as comfortably as men with a strong sense of style and control, and this collection does a good job in bringing that energy to a post-COVID-19 world.

The look: Visual deceptions, faux layerings, sportswear influences, a return of the ’90s sexy chic, but rooted in modernity.

Quote of note: “The starting point of the collection is that London has been in lockdowns for so long, we just really miss being on the street and people watching. The essence of these big metropolises is the people. It’s interesting to see a well-dressed woman and you can’t place what they are wearing. You know they look great, but it’s not necessarily Bottega this, Celine that. They have a sense of style.”

Key pieces: Cropped jacket, patchwork long coat, flared trousers, pieces in circular radiating dots print. Brushed-leather shoulder bag, the duo’s take on a Fendi baguette, and hybrid shoes, a mix between driving shoes and heels.

The takeaway: If HBO Max had cast Ella Emhoff as Carrie Bradshaw for its “Sex and the City” reboot, she would definitely look good in some of the looks in this collection.
