I’m plus-size – the five basics you need to have in your closet for infinite outfits | The Sun

YOU don't need hundreds of pieces of clothing to create a lot of outfits – in fact, one blogger says you only need five.

By keeping your closet well-stocked with basics, you can make an "unlimited" number of combinations, she told her followers.

The fashion advice comes from model and influencer Renée Reese, who uses the handle PlusSizeMiniSkirt on Instagram and TikTok.

She provides styling tips for women who are embracing their bodies and learning to express themselves through clothes.

In one recent video, she told viewers how to break through a frustration many women have when getting dressed: feeling as though they have "nothing to wear."

"If you have nothing to wear, it's because you don't have enough basics and staples," Reese explained.

"Basic" pieces aren't something you turn to when you have no other option, but a foundational part of your wardrobe, she added.

"If you have lots of outfit combinations then you have unlimited outfits," she said.

Then, the blogger posted a follow-up video sharing the five wardrobe staples she can't do without.

First on the list is "a bodysuit that makes you feel snatched." Reese held out a white, scoop-neck bodysuit with no sleeves.

Then, she paired it with the next basic staple on her list: a pair of tailored trousers.

Reese said the third item on her must-have roster was an "oversized white linen shirt," which can be styled in plenty of different ways.

She put the loose top on over her bodysuit for a casual, laid-back look.

Next on her list was an item many viewers probably have already, a basic black tee.

Reese chose a classic silhouette with cap sleeves and a crew neck, which would provide a great backdrop for jackets, jewelry, or vests.

Finally, Reese slipped into a pair of jeans, because the final wardrobe staple she advocated for was "quality denim."

Once the basics are in place, Reese said, you can start adding other items to your closet and venture beyond your comfort zone.

For example, one commenter said they already had a stack of basic black shirts in their closet.

"Time to experiment with color, bestie!" Reese encouraged them in response.
