DO you always hear about everyone else’s charity shop bargains, but fail to bag your own?

You’re not alone, but now a charity shop whizz has shared how she discovers the best products hidden on the rails – and how you can do it too.

TikTok user @themonicaway, who describes herself as a “second hand expert”, revealed her top tips in a new video.

She uploaded a post and titled it: “Tips on how to find amazing items and look expensive when charity shopping… from a charity shop expert.”

In it, she told her 28,300 followers what to expect inside charity shops and how to make them work for you.

Monica also lifted the lid on what to look out for in certain clothing products – from prints to finishing touches.

She began by telling her followers: “First up, and that’s to look for quintessential prints.

“Prints include beautiful plaids, houndstooth, tartans.

“Any print that has a heritage undertone really elevates and gives your wardrobe that look of sophistication.

Monica then said this tip had helped her find countless blazers that add instant value to your wardrobe.

The social media user continued to show what she meant, as she held up a monochrome dogtooth blazer.

Monica then went on to share the second point on her charity shop checklist.

She explained: “My next tip is whilst looking for outerwear to really pay attention to the buttons on the outfits that you’re looking for.”

She added that “gold or pearl” buttons were two particular favourites as the details help to “give that look of expense”.

Speaking of outerwear, @themonicaway said she always buys her jackets and coats from charity shops.

The pre-loved items not only do the trick in keeping you warm, but they’re also a fraction of the price but often at great quality.

The charity shop fanatic’s third gem was to “always pay attention to the fabric makeup of the pieces.”

That way you can discover some absolute must-haves, like coats made with pure wool.

Another piece of Monica’s advice was to “consider sticking to neutrals or a specific colour palette.”

Monica stated that this was because it helps you to create a capsule wardrobe that is easy to style.

While she also said it’s better to buy trends in a charity shop as then you’ve not splashed out on something you’ll only wear a handful of times.

Elsewhere in the video, Monica also shared how there are four departments that are definitely go-to’s – homeware, shoes, tailorwear and occasion.

Speaking of the sparkly numbers on offer in the occasion wear section, she said: “You can find some great steals here.

She added: “Always visit the dress section, lots of people buy occasion wear only to wear it once or twice.”

Proving her point, Monica spotted a navy Warehouse jumpsuit that was originally sold for £59, but on sale for £7.99, as well as lots of wedding fascinators and hats.
