MANY parents will understand the frustration caused by awaking your sleeping baby while putting them in their cot.

But according to a baby sleep expert, there are simple tricks which often work to be a “success.”

Rachelle Gershkovich has shared exactly how to put your baby down in their cot, and the common mistakes parents may often make.

Taking to TikTok, the parenting expert, who goes by the name of sleepbyrachelle, shared this specific parenting advice to her 95.7k followers.

She first started off by saying: “Most babies fall asleep in our arms when they’re really little, but the second you lay them down they awake and it’s really hard to get them back to sleep.”

Rachelle demonstrates how to do it in the video, while talking them through a step by step process.

She continues: “If you’re in the position where you have your arm behind the baby's back, then you reposition your hands first before you try to lay them down.

“One hand is going to go behind the head, and one hand behind the bum, so I have freed up the back so my hands are not stuck when I try to lay the baby down.

“Next tip is to make sure that when you go and lay your baby down, you don’t remove them from your body and bring them down.

“It triggers their moral reflex which makes them feel like they are falling.

“So instead hold your baby close to your body and end your entire body down.

“Go all the way down, and you are going to pull your hand from their bum out, and you're going to put it on their chest.

“So now I have one hand on their chest, and one hand behind their head.

“I’m moving my hand behind the head first and I’m keeping my hand on the chest.

“The entire time you’re doing this, your eyes need to be closed.

“Eyes is a non verbal communication that your baby should be asleep.

“They are going to mimic you, so if your eyes are closed, their eyes are closed.”

And with your eyes closed, along with some pressure on the belly, you will slowly release your hand and hover.

Rachelle continues: “Then pull all your hands all the way up, wait a second and then you’ll remove yourself from the room. Maybe [after] five minutes, but it is very successful.”
