Great British Bake Off Stilton Souffle recipe – How to make Paul Hollywood’s cheese dish in the technical challenge – The Sun

THE Great British Bake Off finale is upon us and contestants will have to pull out all of the stops to be crowned the winner.

For the all-important technical round, bakers were given Paul Hollywood's Stilton Souffle to master with limited instructions – but here's how you can make it at home without the stress of the tent.

What is Stilton Souffle?

A souffle is a baked egg-based dish which originally came from France in the early 18th century.

It's made with beaten egg whites and egg yolks and can be served as a savory main dish or sweetened to make a dessert.

To add a kick of flavour, extra ingredients such as stilton can be added to the bake.

The finished result should be puffed up and fluffy.

What is the Technical Challenge this week on Bake Off?

This week's Technical Challenge was set by Paul Hollywood and he asked the bakers to make six twice baked stilton souffles.

Hosts Sandi and Noel said to the contestants: "They need to hold their shape when they come out of the mould, but they need to be delicate and fluffy at the touch.

"Each one must be served with a thin Lavosh cracker."

The contestants were given an hour and 10 minutes to do the challenge.

What is the recipe for Stilton Souffle?

Although the judges only provided the remaining three bakers with limited instructions for their souffles, there's an extremely similar recipe on BBC Good Food's website.

Ingredients:

  • Melt butter and flour and mix till thick
  • Add parmesans, mustard, thyme and chives
  • Beat in egg yolks and mix in stilton and seasoning
  • Whisk egg whites
  • Put mixture in the tins
  • Bake using a water bath

Instructions:

  • Make dough, roll till paper thin
  • 12 equal triangles
  • Put back into the oven, decorate and serve

What do the bakers have to do in the final?

Given it is the last episode of the series, the bakers will have to pull out all the stops to impress the judges to be crowned the winner of The Great British Bake Off 2019.

To determine if their culinary skills are enough to receive such an honour they must prepare a chocolate cake for the Signature.

Then, for the Technical Challenge the contestants must serve up a soufflé, one of the most delicate of dishes.

Finally, for the Showstopper they need to create an edible illusion using only cake, sweet bread and biscuits.

The baker with the most impressive dishes will be crowned the champion of The Great British Bake Off 2019.
