IVY may be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but it can also cause severe structural issues to your home if it's not cared for properly.

Not to mention the fact it can be harmful to both children and pets, causing allergic reactions if touched and vomiting if ingested.

But luckily, if you don't know where to start when it comes to removing it, savvy gardeners have taken to a Mrs Hinch-inspired Facebook group to share a very handy 29p hack.

And best of all – you'll already have the ingredient in your kitchen cupboards.

As reported by The Express, the initial post that sparked the conversation read: "Ivy problem. My wife and I have spent the last couple of weeks removing next door's ivy from our side of the fence panel.

“We thought we’d got it all but now it’s growing back. The fence is paper thin and I’m concerned it’s going to collapse.

“I’ve considered shoring up the panel with some planks but how do we stop the ivy continuing to grow through?”

And the person wasn't short of answers from green-fingered social media users who took to the comments section with suggestions – and there was one stand out answer, white vinegar.

Elsewhere, another popular suggestion was lemon juice.

"Kinder to use lemon juice. It works!” one person wrote.

A second commented: "We also use lemon juice on our ivy. I use the pancake lemon juice that comes in the squirt-y lemon.

“I do tend to keep the last one so I can water it down a bit and then I just squirt it on.

“I was told it wasn’t harmful to wildlife so we have always used it.”
