Detailed Look at the Trophy Room x Air Jordan 1

12/09/2020

Trophy Room has a deep appreciation for Michael Jordan lore — its founder is his son Marcus Jordan, after all — and its new Air Jordan 1 collaboration nods to an early piece of His Airness’ NBA legacy: namely the legend of the 1985 All-Star Game “Freeze-Out.” Although it’s never been officially confirmed by the game’s other participants, the “Freeze-Out,” where legends like Isiah Thomas and Larry Bird may have conspired to keep the ball out of a brash rookie Jordan’s hands, has become a part of NBA history. Saluting this story,Trophy Room’s AJ1 nods to the game, the legend surrounding it, and the gold chains that MJ wore in the Slam Dunk Contest the day before the game.

From a looks standpoint, the Trophy Room x Air Jordan 1 borrows its colorblocking directly from Jordan Brand‘s seminal Air Jordan 1 “Chicago,” the shoe Jordan wore during the game itself. The Chicago Bulls-esque mixture of white and red with black accents is inherently familiar to any Air Jordan fan, but what’s not is the material and stitching on the red overlays: the former offers a glossy sheen, while the latter is done up in white instead of standard red for an extra touch of contrast. Jordan’s signature also appears on each shoe’s lateral heel, and the outsole boasts a translucent blue build with All-Star inspired star graphics visible under its rubber folds. Although this is speculative, it’s quite possible that the overlay’s icy tint and the blue outsoles are a chilly call-out to the “Freeze-Out.”

Finishing off the look are two special inner details: the collar lining is embroidered with a “Rumor Has it” for the design’s most direct call-out to the “Freeze-Out,” and a co-branded graphic patch is embroidered on the insole. The shoes also come with a “ticket” that nods to the 1985 All-Star Game on the front and explains the story of the “Freeze-Out” on the back. A special blue and white box with more star print rounds off the offering.

An official release date for the Trophy Room x Air Jordan 1 has yet to be announced, but more info is likely to surface soon.
