Carrie Symonds to attend first solo event since Boris Johnson became PM as she delivers a speech to birdwatchers – The Sun

CARRIE Symonds is set to cement her role as the UK’s First Lady when she attends her first solo event on Friday.

Boris Johnson’s girlfriend, 31, is set to deliver a speech at an environmental conference in Leicestershire tomorrow, but the PM will not be joining her.

The former PR guru will be addressing birdwatchers at the Rutland Water Nature Resrve according to the Daily Telegraph, speaking in capacity as an ocean conservationist.

CEO of the Badger Trust Dominic Dyer told the Telegraph that her speech will “set the theme” for the event.

He added: "She will be talking about the importance of Birdfair and her own passion and interest in conservation and wildlife protection.

"She's there as an independent wildlife campaigner and will speak about her own experience of wildlife watching.

"It'll be interesting and inspiring to have someone in Downing Street there who cares so much about wildlife."

Carrie will be joined by other guest speakers including Springwatch presenter Chris Packham and Dragons Den’s Deborah Meaden.

The ticketed event costs £15 to attend and is affectionately known as the "birdwatchers Glastonbury."

Carrie is a keen advocate when it comes to nature conservation, describing herself on Twitter as, “Conservationist. Oceans. Fighting plastic pollution.”

She has previously tweeted about her own birdwatching trip where she spotted  a puffin.

Writing on Twitter last month she wrote: “Saw a puffin for the first time last month. Was so excited. They are far smaller than I expected but you can’t miss them with their amazing rainbow bills.

“I also found out that a baby puffin is called a puffling. Just can’t understand why anyone would want to shoot them. Mad.”

Carrie made her official debut at No10 earlier this week when she joined the PM for a reception for hospice workers.

Dressed in a £159 Whistles dress, Carrie cut a modest figure as she spent time chatting to guests alongside Boris.

The move was a big step for the couple, and shows that Carrie will take on a very public role as the PM’s official other half.

The last time the couple were pictured together officially was on Boris’ first day as PM.

Carrie defied the advice of some of the Bojo’s closest aides by insisting on joining Downing Street staff in standing outside to welcome Boris to No10.

Boris and Carrie became a couple last year.

But they have kept a low profile as Boris’ divorce from barrister Marina Wheeler, 55, makes its way through the courts.

In other news, we told you how Carrie is morphing into Meghan Markle since she began dating the PM.

And we revealed the bizarre rules that Carrie will have to follow after moving in to No11 with Boris.
