Troian Bellisario's 'Baby Shark' Story Will Make You Cry with Laughter

It’s been a big year for Troian Bellisario! SheKnows sat down with the Pretty Little Liars star to talk “Baby Shark,” family routines and mom-shaming, hot on the heels of the actress’s latest feature film Where’d You Go, Bernadette hitting theaters this August. The film, directed by Richard Linklater and starring Cate Blanchett and Kristen Wiig, features Bellisario as Becky, a pivotal figure for Bernadette (Blanchett) as she makes her way through Antarctica.

But Bellisario had one other notable moment this year we were dying to talk about. Just 10 months back, Bellisario gave birth to her first child, a daughter, with husband Patrick J. Adams. And it turns out this star has a lot of thoughts about her new life as a mom.

First of all, Bellisario is just plain obsessed with her baby daughter — and it’s so sweet to hear her describe it. “She’s the coolest,” the actress gushes. “I just can’t get enough of her. Even last night she was screaming her head off because she’s teething right now and I was just like ‘I just want to hug you. That’s it. I could never stop hugging you.’”

But Bellisario also admits there are some less-than-ideal aspects to motherhood: namely, mom-shaming. “Mom-shaming is totally a thing that I think a lot of women aren’t even aware that they’re doing,” the Bernadette star muses, sharing that she recently had some internal conflict before posting to Instagram about breastfeeding. “If I posted about my relationship to breastfeeding, that might — even without me trying — make a mom who is not breastfeeding [..] feel shamed, because here I am posting about it.”

In the end, Bellisario thinks it comes down to doing what’s right for your family — whatever that may look like. “As long as you’re doing what’s best for you and your child,” she says, “You’re incredible. And you’re already winning.”
