Timbaland's former rap partner Magoo dies aged 50

Magoo, who was best known for being part of the hip-hop duo Timbaland & Magoo has died aged 50.

The news of the rapper’s death was confirmed by R&B artist Digital Black (Benjamin Bush) of Dru Hill and Playa in an Instagram post shared on Sunday night.

‘Man can’t believe this RIP Magoo damn big bro wasnt ready for this at all #superfriends [sic],’ he penned

His cause of death is unknown.

American R&B singer Ginuwine – real name Elgin Baylor Lumpkin – appeared to pay tribute to the late star on social media, writing: ‘Times get rough but we keep on pushing just heard some news I hope it ain’t true …I just want everyone to know that time is short love who you love and make sure they know it.’

Some of Magoo’s – real nameMelvin Magoo Barcliff – most popular songs included ‘Up Jumps Da’ Boogie’ from 1997, ‘We at it Again’ from 2000 and ‘Party People in 2001.

The rapper started his career back n 1989 when he met Timbaland – real name Timothy Zachery Mosley – when they were both teens.

During their formative years, Magoo and Timbaland were part of a group called SBI (Surrounded By Idiots) that included Larry Live and singerPharrell Williams.

The duo came out with their debut album in 1997 with Welcome to Our World, which had their hit single Up Jumps Da Boogie.

Magoo and Timbaland frequently collaborated with fellow Swing Mob members, including Missy Elliott, Ginuwine, Playa, and Aaliyah, across their careers.

Magoo’s death coincided with the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop this weekend.

Artists including Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Eve, Wiz Khalifa, Nas and Lauryn Hill performed at Yankee Stadium Friday night to celebrate the genre’s birth.
