This Morning star 'sad and angry' about 'sorry mess' engulfing the show

This Morning presenter Alice Beer has expressed her dismay at the drama engulfing the programme after Phillip Schofield admitted to having an affair with a young colleague.

After resigning from the ITV breakfast show last weekend, on Friday evening Phillip, 61, then issued a statement stepping away from the channel altogether after admitting to having an affair that he labelled as ‘unwise but not illegal’.

The long-time host also confessed that the affair happened while still married to his wife of 30 years, Stephanie Lowe, and that he also lied about the relationship to his bosses and colleagues.

As the news broke, current and former This Morning presenters weighed in, and now others are starting to make their opinion on the events known.

Alice, 58, is best known for appearing on consumer investigative journalism programme Watchdog, and has been the consumer presenter on This Morning since 2014.

On Saturday morning she shared a brief statement on social media addressing the events.

‘Sad and angry. This sorry mess reflects on all of us who have enjoyed the fun and glory of working on such a successful programme,’ she posted on Twitter.

She was supported by fans, who said they understood why she was feeling so conflicted.

‘There’s a lot of unhelpful speculation at the moment. But you are not to blame for having a job that you loved. You have all been put in an impossible position,’ one person commented.

‘Not an easy situation for you. Try not to dwell too much and spoil your good memories on the program,’ someone else shared.

Another added: ‘If you knew nothing and was lied/mislead you are going to feel like everyone else. Everyone wants truth and accountability. Hopefully you will still be on the show as you give good advice/offers and make me laugh at the same time.’

The post comes a few days after Alice initially threw her support behind Phillip.

‘Stanley says “For goodness sakes, it’s only a flipping sofa!”,’ she commented alongside a photo of her dog on the set of the show on Wednesday.

‘Sending love to @schofe who has been supportive and loving to me over the last 10 years…… and hoping that service will return to normal soon. ?❤️ #bekind.’

Soon after Phillip’s statement, ITV released their own, saying it was ‘deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit made tonight’.

‘The relationships we have with those we work with are based on trust.

‘Phillip made assurances to us which he now acknowledges were untrue and we feel badly let down.’

The broadcaster added it had ‘accepted his resignation’.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Alice Beer for further comment.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
