Sir Rod Stewart cancels Geelong concert last-minute due to illness

03/18/2023

Sir Rod Stewart has been forced to cancel one of the dates of his Australian tour over illness.

The Maggie May singer, 78, had been due to perform at the Mt Duneed Estate in Geelong, Australia on Saturday with Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens.

But just hours before the show was due to start, the I Don’t Want to Talk About It chart-topper announced it would not be going ahead on Instagram.

The statement read: ‘Live Nation and Roundhouse Entertainment regret to announce that tonight’s performance by Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens at Mt Duneed Estate, Geelong will not go ahead due to illness.

‘We apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience for ticket holders. A further announcement regarding the concert arrangements will be made early next week.’

The Sailing star captioned the post with a broken heart emoji.

Sir Rod is next scheduled to perform on Tuesday at the AEC Arena in Adelaide followed by Sirromet Wines in Mt Cotton. It is not known whether these dates are affected.

The First Cut Is the Deepest singer is currently on a world tour, with gigs in countries such as Mexico, New Zealand and the States.

He will then return to the UK for a slew of performances in June in Plymouth, Northampton, Durham, Bristol, Hull and Edinburgh.

It comes after Sir Rod announced he would pay for life-saving scans after hearing heartbreaking NHS crisis stories.

The pop icon explained to Sky News: ‘In all my years of living in this country, I’ve never seen it so bad, and anything I could do to help.’

True to his word, Sir Rod returned to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex and stumped up the bill for several patients’ procedures.
