Sam Smith rocks Teletubbies heels and insists 'Tinky Winky is gay'
09/12/2023Sam Smith isn’t afraid of an out-there outfit or two, and their recent one was pretty, er, unexpected.
The 31-year-old Unholy hitmaker has taken to social media with a video strutting their stuff in some knee-length green heels.
But they weren’t just any green heels. The footwear in question had actual Telletubbie Dipsy protruding out of them.
That’s right; arms, face, features and all.
The singer – who is always trying out wacky looks – also wore a blue and white striped long-sleeve top, which had a picture of a child eating an apple on the front.
With it, they wore some little denim shorts, thick-rimmed glasses, and hoop earrings as they posed for the camera with their hand on chin, and strutted closer as if on the catwalk.
Alongside the video, the singer wrote, ‘TINKIE WINKIE IS GAY,’ followed by rainbow hearts.
Playing alongside the video was the iconic Teletubbies theme tune, and it seems Sam might be a fan, as they mouthed some of the words.
The show, which aired in 1997, saw four brightly-coloured creatures with aerials on their heads – Tinky Winky, Dipsy, La-La and Po – utter nonsensical phrases in episodes aimed for pre-schoolers.

But it’s been suggested the Teletubbies are actually big LGBTQ+ rights activists, after Tinky Winky – being purple and wearing a handbag – was accused by far right groups of pushing a gay agenda with ‘subtle depictions’.
The Teletubby paid no notice and continued being Tinky Winky despite the trolls, and the colourful crew even launched their own pride collection, featuring face masks, bucket hats, bum bags, socks, shorts, tees and tanks.
So while Sam’s heels are undeniably weird, there may be a deeper meaning behind their choice of footwear, given their history of campaigning for the LGBTQ+ community.
Tinky Winky is yet to comment…
