New Harry Potter multiplayer game is all about Quidditch

04/18/2023

If you were disappointed with Hogwarts Legacy’s lack of Quidditch, you’ll be happy to hear that a dedicated Quidditch game is in the works.

Hogwarts Legacy was always expected to do well, even with all the controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling and, by extension, the Harry Potter franchise. Yet it’s managed to outperform Warner Bros.’ own sales projections and there’s a very real possibility it’ll become the best-selling game of 2023.

This not only assures a sequel (something Warner has already hinted at), but more Harry Potter games in general; one of which has now been announced.

Whereas Hogwarts Legacy was a single-player only adventure, the newly announced Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is the exact opposite: a competitive multiplayer title involving the titular sport and ‘other broomstick adventures.’

This obviously wasn’t just greenlit in the wake of Hogwarts Legacy’s success. In fact, Portkey Games (the Warner Bros. division all about making Harry Potter video games) explains that Quidditch Champions has been in development for several years.

Described as a ‘complete, standalone Quidditch experience,’ the game’s being worked on by Unbroken Studios, which is also assisting Rocksteady with its Suicide Squad game.

There’s currently no gameplay or release date, with an FAQ only stating that it’s coming to PC and unspecified consoles.

The only confirmed details are that you can play it solo or with other players online, you can create and customise your character, and it requires a constant Internet connection.

Although details are slim, this news is sure to excite certain Hogwarts Legacy fans as Quidditch is noticeably absent from that game despite it being such an iconic aspect of the franchise.

Playtests for the game are available too and you can register to take part via the official website, though Portkey stresses that registration does not guarantee you’ll be invited to current or future playtests.
