Miranda Lambert Opens Up About Life With Brendan McLoughlin

11/12/2019

It’s been ten months since Miranda Lambert and Brendan McLoughlin tied the knot and now the Wildcard singer is opening up about their life as newlyweds. The singer surprised fans in January when she and the New York City-based police officer quietly wed on a farm in Tennessee, three months after meeting on the set of Good Morning America. But in a new interview, Lambert spilled details about knowing she had to “snatch” McLoughlin up, adjusting to the NYC lifestyle, and working out with her superfit new hubby.

Speaking to Health for their December 2019 cover, the country superstar didn’t shy away from answering questions about life with McLoughlin — including their quick courtship. “I feel like I’ve been through enough in my life to know what I don’t want. So, when I know what I do want, I snatch it right up,” she explained. And that she did. The relationship naturally hasn’t come without a few adjustments along the way, though.

Like, for instance, the fact that a quintessential country girl like Lambert had to learn to navigate New York City. “I’ve been to New York so many times, but I’ve only ever worked [there]. I’ve never gotten to hang out and wander the city and really take it in. I really enjoy it, but it does drain your energy,” she admitted, adding, “That’s why going back to the farm is very important. It refuels me.”

Fortunately, Lambert and McLoughlin have the luxury of being able to stay together while she’s on tour for her new Wildcard album. Coming off what more-or-less amounts to an 8-month break to just be married and enjoy her new husband’s company, Lambert is back on the road — with McLoughlin in tow. “I’m trying to embrace being on the road. We played Tahoe the other day and stayed a couple extra days. As musicians, we go everywhere, but we don’t see very much. I’m trying to explore and enjoy,” she said of touring with her new built-in travel partner.

The couple even manages to squeeze in some time to work out together along the way. “He does a pity run with me, and then he does his real run. It’s sad. These days, I just try to feel good about myself and know that I’m trying,” she said, joking of their sweat sessions, “Sometimes I want to kill him, and sometimes I’m thankful for it.”

Whatever they’re doing, it seems to be working — Lambert looks and sounds amazing. When asked by Health whether the heart-on-her-sleeve version of herself heard on the new album was here to say, Lambert hinted that life with McLoughlin is certainly imprinting on her music: “I didn’t leave all my edge behind, but I’m definitely celebrating joy a lot more than I have before.”
