Kim Kardashian West's Skims 'Solutionwear' Launches Today at Noon EST!

09/10/2019

If it seems like some people are just born with self-esteem, it’s probably because they had someone in their lives instilling it in them from a young age — at least that’s the hope for one reality TV magnate mama. Ahead of her Skims shapewear launch today, Kardashian West reveals that building her daughters’ body confidence is important to her. And her methods of reinforcing this with North, 6, and Chicago, 1, makes a lot of sense.

To back up a tic, Kardashian West’s Skims “Solutionwear” has actually gotten some praise, thanks to the line’s size-inclusivity and the fact that the whole line comes in nine colors, from “sand” to a “onyx” and everything in between. You can shop it starting today at noon, and if her sister Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kits are any indicator, we bet lots of it will sell out right away. (Move over, Spanx!)

At this point, North and Chicago are both young enough to (fortunately) be unaware of the societal pressure cooker that is body image. “I think my kids are a little too young to really understand what cellulite is and have those conversations,” she said in a new interview with Elle.com. “But they also see that we’re in front of the camera, and I like to feel good about myself, and there’s a time and a place. It’s not like I sit home with body makeup all over me, but I do feel really confident.”

Kardashian West also doesn’t hide her undressed body from her kids. And by normalizing the totally normal human form, the mom of four is reinforcing that bodies aren’t something to be ashamed about. It seems to be working, too. “I mean, [North]’s the most confident person on the planet,” Kardashian West said. “So I don’t think I’ll really have a problem there, but I always teach body confidence and always wanting to feel your best.”

To state the obvious, Kardashian West doesn’t seem like a woman who lacks confidence of any kind. But as she revealed to Elle.com, she picked up a lot of her body positivity at a young age from watching her own mom, Kris Jenner. Now, Kardashian West is following the Kardashian-Jenner matriarch’s lead by setting an example for her girls to follow. “I think my kids see me get up and go to the gym every day and work out, and I remember I would see my mom be active and play tennis and sports, and I love that my kids see me ski and water ski, and [be] really active,” Kardashian West shared.

For Kardashian West, building body confidence also means being transparent with her daughters about how things like food affect the way they feel. They “openly talk about what we put in our bodies and the foods that we eat and not eating too much sugar.” To that end, the family eats a plant-based diet when they’re at home, a lifestyle change Kardashian West calls “a real fun journey.”

These conversations will likely continue, and maybe even ramp up in the Kardashian West household, with today’s launch of Skims. And while she has worked hard to make the line inclusive and body-positive (it sizes up to 5XL), Kardashian West understands the shapewear isn’t a total solution for body image issues. “I think it all goes together and when you’re not confident it’s not just like, ‘Oh well, put on some solution wear and you’re all fixed,’” she said, adding, “No, if there’s something, I always use it as motivation.”
