Jeremy Clarkson has slammed a shoplifter who was captured on CCTV doing a free grocery shop at Diddly Squat.

The former Top Gear star, 63, famously decided to try his hand at farming after purchasing 1000 acres from what was formerly part of the Sarsden estate in Oxfordshire in 2008.

It was 11 years later he decided to give working the land a go, however soon renamed his farm Diddly Squat to indicate its lack of productivity.

Despite this, the farm has now become a tourist destination, with fans of his series Clarkson’s Farm flocking to the estate to check out his handiwork, and the items on offer in his shop, which was opened in 2020.

As Jeremy explains on its website, the shop is a ‘small barn full of good, no-nonsense things you’ll like’, and reassured customers there wasn’t any kale in sight.

Items range from jams and chutneys to aprons and tea towels, as well as gin, candles and clothing, however a potential customer got sticky fingers recently when browsing the shelves.

This week Jeremy shared a CCTV clip of a man with his face obscured by a cap who was looking at what was on offer before placing a bottle of alcohol into his jacket.

‘This man came “shopping” at the farm shop. I would like to meet the cu,’ Jeremy captioned the post, clearly censoring himself from wanting to call the man something a little too rude to reprint.

Many people expressed their shared annoyance at the shoplifter, with one commenting: ‘People actually think cameras don’t exist.’

‘When you steal from someone who has 6.7 million followers and get caught on camera,’ someone else pointed out.

Meanwhile fans of the show referenced ‘Head of Security’ Gerald Cooper and questioned why he wasn’t on hand.

‘Where’s your head of security when you need him?,’ one person wrote.

Another joked: ‘Punishment to fit the crime. He should be made to listen to an audiobook on stealing by Gerald.’

Meanwhile farmer, and fellow Clarkson’s Farm star Kaleb Cooper, simply wrote that the incident was ‘such a shame’.

The man was believed to have been joined by an accomplice, who police said helped contribute to nearly £150 of items being stolen.

As reported by The Sun, a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said it had received a report of shoplifting at Diddly Squat Farm Shop and how two men had arrived around 4.15pm before taking their pick of the goods.

‘Two men entered the shop after arriving in the same vehicle. One went to the till and bought £69-worth of goods while the other stole two bottles of alcohol and another unknown item, worth around £80,’ police said.

The stealing comes after Jeremy also had to contend with an issue with some of his cider products after warning customers some of the bottles they had purchased were at risk of ‘exploding’.

Explaining last month how there had been a ‘massive co** up’ and there was a ‘slim chance’ some of the bottles might explode, he urged people to ‘open it underwater, pour it away and get in touch for a refund’.

The issue was due to a small amount of the cider produced ‘over fermenting’.

Clarkson’s Farm is streaming on Prime Video.
