Gogglebox viewers were left in stitches over best friends Abbie Lynn and Georgia Bell’s baffling comments about Charles Dickens.

The likes of Lee Riley and Jenny Newby were amongst those watching a preview of the BBC’s adaptation of Great Expectations, which sees Olivia Colman as an opium-addicted Miss Havisham.

The Durham based duo had no idea who The Crown star was though, with Abbie asking: ‘Well I hate to break it to you, but I don’t know who that is!’

Georgia clarified: ‘She’s in everything!’

As they tried to figure out what they were watching, Abbie asked Georgia: ‘Do you know who Charles Dickens is?’

The mum-of-one replied: ‘Do I, hell?’

‘I’m sure he writes a book called Twit and T**t,’ Abbie attempted.

‘Or Twit and T**t… Twit and Twig… or something.’

Abbie was left even more confused when Georgia admitted she had heard the name Miss Havisham before ‘in school’.

Viewers were in hysterics over the comments, with one writing: “You know Charles Dickens, I’m sure he writes a book called Twit and T**t” #Gogglebox I can’t cope’.

Another penned: ‘That classic Charles Dickens classic “twit n t**t”.’

Someone else wrote: ‘They don’t know who Charles Dickens is..??!’

This isn’t the first time Abbie and Georgia have sent us into giggles, with the pair’s recent commentary including branding a Top of the Pops segment from 1992 ‘the olden days’.

Watching the clip, which recently re-aired on BBC, Abbie began: ‘I’ve never seen this before,’ with Georgia adding: ‘It looks ancient!’

Abbie continued: ‘I think it’s out of the olden days.’

The girls didn’t help themselves later in the segment, as Abbie added: ‘I feel like we need to be watching this in black and white.’

Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
