Eamonn Holmes reflects on 'good day' after Phillip Schofield's This Morning exit

Eamonn Holmes has shared a social media update, in the form of an adorable picture with his granddaughter, reflecting on a ‘good day’.

The GB News presenter, who is married to Loose Women star Ruth Langsford, has been pretty vocal about his thoughts on Phillip Schofield and the rumoured ‘fallout’ between the This Morning hosts.

Amid claims Phil, 61, and Holly Willoughby, 42, were were ‘barely speaking’ behind-the-scenes and that their relationship had ‘cooled’, Eamonn launched a blistering attack on the pair, calling them ‘actors’.

On Saturday, Phil announced he was stepping down from This Morning after days of speculation, while ITV confirmed Holly would continue presenting with other members of the team.

After more than 20 years on the This Morning sofa, Phil said: ‘I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

‘Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.

Phillip Schofield’s departure from This Morning after 20 years has been confirmed by ITV, days after a rumoured fallout with Holly Willoughby. The 61-year-old and his daytime television co-host, 41, have been the centre of speculation after it was reported they were ‘barely speaking’ behind-the-scenes and that their relationship had ‘cooled’. It has since been announced that Phil will be stepping down while Holly will remain, and they have already presented their last programme together. #metronews #metrouknews #philipschofield #itvthismorning #hollywilloughby #itv #thismorningitv #thismorning #phillipschofield #phillipschofield #newsfyp #newstok #itvfyp #breakingnews #fyp #phillipschofieldfallout #itvthismorning #thismorningitv #fyp #steppingdown #phillipschofieldquits

‘I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

‘So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.’

Taking to Twitter just hours later, Eamonn posted a sweet snap with his granddaughter, writing: ‘Pappa got a smacker, Thank u Emilia.

‘All in all that rounded off what turned out to be a good day.’

Fans took to the comments to read between the lines, with one writing: ‘Savage.’

‘The comment very well worded,’ another wrote, while another laughed: ‘I’ll bet it was.’

Speaking on his programme on Monday May 15 alongside his co-host Isabel Webster, Eamonn addressed the rumours of Phil and Holly’s fallout head-on, despite the pair failing to mention it on This Morning.

‘I think there should’ve been a special award for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby for best actors,’ Eamonn said savagely.

‘They may or may not be together on the telly today, but he’s brought in lawyers, she’s brought in [a] PR team. The public surely have sussed that there’s no chemistry, that there’s a broken fit between the two of them.’

Eamonn continued stressing that in his opinion, This Morning ‘does not depend on who presents it’.

‘It’s an institution. It will carry on no matter who presents it, and anybody can check the viewing figures. There’s no difference between whether they present it or anyone else,’ he added.

The former This Morning presenter later liked a Tweet in response to a video clip shared in which Phil could be heard speaking over Ruth on Loose Women.

The Twitter user sharing the clip captioned it: ‘Phillip Schofield shutting Ruth Langsford down while she discusses Emmerdale’s grooming plot should have been a massive red flag from the start…’

Ruth and Eamonn were replaced by Alison Hammond, 48, and Dermot O’Leary, 49, on Friday’s This Morning, and he later went on to present on GB News.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
