RuPaul’s Drag Race star Nina West is being supported by the drag community after her latest show was gate-crashed by a heckler who claimed there were children in the audience and that the content was ‘not right’.

Nina had been performing at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Tuesday (December 27) when Chris Nelson started yelling that there were kids in the theatre, despite the event being for adults only.

In a video he posted on Twitter, Nelson shouted: ‘It is not right for kids to be at this thing.’

Nina, who had been in the middle of talking to a guest in the audience, responded calmly.

‘Sir, I’m going to need you to apologise because the person I am talking to is 35 years old, so if you would like to introduce yourself and apologise to her personally,’ she replied, before being cut off.

‘There are children here, it is not right,’ the heckler interrupted, and continued to yell ‘it is not right’ as he exited the theatre.

‘After noticing MULTIPLE children in the audience at the explicit Drag Queen Christmas in Ft Lauderdale I called out performer Nina West for inviting and allowing children to come to her sexually explicit shows!’ he captioned his post.

Many people have spoken out in solidarity of Nina, with many commending her for how she dealt with the horrible situation.

One claimed: ‘I was there…he literally bought a ticket and sat through the first act and intermission and all he did was unite the crowd against him. @NinaWest handled it brilliantly.’

Echoing a similar sentiment, another said: ‘I just want to thank @NinaWest for how she elegantly handled this situation. I don’t know if I’m would have been as gracious. The guy was WAY out of line.’

Drag artist Marti G Cummings said: ‘Our community is so lucky to have someone like @NinaWest these attacks are getting out of hand. Go show her some love.’

Marti G Cummings, who has hosted Story Hour events in the US, previously hit out at the backlash.

‘Anyone who thinks drag isn’t for children is wrong,’ they said. ‘Drag is expression, and children are such judgement-free beings; they don’t really care what you’re wearing, just what you’re performing.’
