Dancing On Ice pro Matt Evers reveals source of fire alarm after evacuation

02/18/2023

Dancing On Ice stars were thrown into chaos when they were forced to evacuate the studios ‘half-dressed’ just hours before a live show earlier this series.

But pro Matt Evers has now revealed what really went down – thanks to judge Oti Mabuse’s hairdresser accidentally setting off the fire alarm.

Chaos followed shortly before a live show, with cast and crew members ‘panicked’.

He said: ‘Oti’s hairdresser accidentally set the fire alarms off the other Sunday – an hour before the show was due to start!

‘We were all panicking, people were in hair and make-up, half-dressed.’

Matt, who was partnered with Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor last year, continued to The Sun: ‘We found out later it was because Oti’s hair straighteners were smoking. But as you saw, it all got resolved in time.’

Matt and his partner Patsy Palmer became the fourth couple bidding an emotional farewell to the ice on Sunday.

Musical Icons week saw the remaining celebrities – including The Vivienne, Mollie Gallagher, and Joey Essex – tackling new routines from the greatest musicians including Beyonce, Elton John, and Billie Eilish.

The judges, Oti, Ashley Banjo, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, opted to save comedian Darren Harriot and his skating partner Tippy Packard, after he landed in the bottom two alongside the Bianca Jackson actress, 50.

Bursting into tears upon learning of her fate, she told hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: ‘I met the best people ever, we’ve been like one big family. Matt is amazing.

‘I’ve proved that I can and exceeded what I can do.’

Reflecting on his partnership with the former EastEnders star, professional partner Matt said: ‘When I first met Patsy on the ice, I was like, “Whoa this is going to be a tough one,” but I am so proud of what she’s accomplished.’

Meanwhile, The Wanted’s Siva Kaneswaran was unable to perform for the show due to illness.

Alongside professional partner Klabera Komini, Siva has become a fan favourite of the 2023 competition, with his most recent performance seeing him clinch his highest mark of the series so far.

However the 34-year-old was unable to keep the momentum going as he was forced to miss Sunday’s episode on advice from the show’s own medical professionals.

A Dancing On Ice spokesperson announced the news on Saturday, saying: ‘Due to illness Siva will not skate in this weekend’s show.’

He said: ‘I’m gutted that I won’t be performing this weekend but I picked up a bug earlier in the week which I haven’t been able to shake so I need to rest and get myself better,’ he explained.

‘Good luck to all the contestants this weekend – I’m looking forward to watching everyone’s performances!’

Dancing On Ice continues Sunday at 6:25pm on ITV1.
