Blue Ivy’s Lip-Syncing ‘The Circle of Life’ Is a Whole Mood
06/03/2019Like mother like Nala! OK, so the expression is “like mother like daughter” — but in the Carter household, it’s basically the same thing. ICYMI, Beyoncé will soon star in the live-action remake of The Lion King and, in a super-sweet moment shared to Instagram, Bey caught daughter Blue Ivy Carter lip-syncing a song from the Disney classic. Guess excellent taste in music and movies runs in the family, huh?
On Sunday, the fierce duo got dressed the nines to attend the Wearable Art Gala in Santa Monica, California, hosted by none other than Bey’s mom Tina Knowles Lawson. Of course, Beyoncé is the queen of slaying all day, with Blue Ivy following in her mom’s fashionable footsteps. So, Beyoncé took to social media to share a few photos of the mother-daughter duo in their glam regalia. But between photos of Bey in her lion-themed Georges Hobeika ensemble and snapshots of Blue Ivy in a yellow gown with African headdress, the proud mama squeezed in a cute video of her little girl serving looks like lip-syncing to “The Circle of Life.”

If you’re thinking that Beyoncé and Blue Ivy looked as though they were honoring the movie with their outfits, you’d be right. The gala raises money for a non-profit organization called Where Art Can Occur, which was founded by host (and Bey’s mom) Knowles Lawson. And Knowles Lawson, along with her husband Richard Lawson, chose a Lion King-inspired theme called “A Journey to the Pride Lands.” Think of it like the recently held Met Gala — the theme served as a jumping off point for attire, which was encouraged to be extra. “Think of the beautiful animals, the vivid landscapes and spectacular sunsets of Africa. There are no limits!” Knowles Larson said in a statement about the event. She even joked that the Wearable Art Gala is affectionately referred to as “Met West.”
Suffice it to say, Bey took the dress code seriously. What we can’t wait to see, aside from the movie itself, is whether fans take a cue from the star and go all out in costume when The Lion King hits theaters on July 18. There has been an uptick in recent years of dressing for casual film screenings, with Black Panther’s veritable runway of moviegoers serving as a prime example. With the Wearable Met Gala offering up so much inspo, it won’t just be the story of Simba and Nala that we show up excited to see on opening day.
