Popular Australian DJ and music expert Ian Bell, 60, has reportedly died in Paris during a family holiday while en route to the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.

A well-known figure on the Adelaide club scene in the 1980s and 90s, he had been photographed alongside the likes of Rita Ora and Spice Girl Mel C over his long and varied career.

He was also a record shop owner, and concert writer and photographer, who worked and performed at Adelaide’s Big Day Out festival over the years.

Bell is said to have died on May 2 in Paris after suffering a heart attack, according to local Adelaide publication The Advertiser.

It was planned to be the first stop on a trip that would culminate at Eurovision next week for him and his family.

Bell is survived by his wife Jordan, their daughter Ruby, and his sisters Susan and Janet.

He gained a following after spinning records at a whole host of clubs including Limbo in the 1980s, as well as Heaven and his own Pop! night on Gouger St in the 1990s.

The DJ’s reviews and music articles were featured on music websites and in local press for years.
