22 Crazy Celebrity Pregnancy Cravings

03/06/2020

If we’re being totally transparent, the entire experience of pregnancy can be pretty strange. Some things happen to your body that are magical, yes — but other things happen that you simply will never fully wrap your brain around. Effectively, your body starts calling the shots and you’re just along for the ride. And never does that feel truer than when you’re dealing with pregnancy cravings.

There’s a reason these pregnancy-specific tastes are parodied so much in film and TV: They are really that wild. During my first pregnancy, I would routinely send my husband to the store late at night to stock up on canned spinach and vinegar, which I would essentially eat as though (combined) they were like a bowl of cereal. During my second pregnancy, there were not enough Now and Later candies in the world to satisfy my pregnancy sweet tooth.

It’s fascinating, right? It’s also a great equalizer. Though celebrities may not share many day-to-day issues with the rest of us, they’re at the whim of their hormones during pregnancy too — and this makes for some pretty wacky celebrity cravings. Since it makes us feel better to know we aren’t the only ones eating things like buttered Pop-Tarts during pregnancy (yes, one celebrity really ate those while expecting her first child), we rounded up some of the funniest and most far-out celebrity pregnancy cravings we could find.

Katy Perry

Newly pregnant Katy Perry’s pregnancy cravings include a constant need for Tabasco sauce, a newfound love for red meat (she’s substituting with the Impossible Burger), and “the same burrito for weeks on end.”

Eva Amurri Martino

Shortly after announcing her third pregnancy in September 2019, Susan Sarandon’s daughter, Eva Amurri Martino, took to her Instagram story to give a glimpse of her current pregnancy craving. “My pregnancy MO is ‘all the condiments all the time,’” she confessed, adding, “This is the jalapeno sauce from Trader Joe’s.”

Alicia Keys

During her pregnancy with son Genesis, Alicia Keys couldn’t get enough fruit. Sounds normal, right? Except for the fact that Keys wanted her fruit prepared in a very specific way. “I’ve had this strange craving for roasted fruit, like roasted cherries and grilled bananas. And that sounds crazy, but it’s real easy. You put it on what you might a panini on and you grill the banana and it’s amazing,” she told Us Weekly.

Alyssa Milano

With her first child, son Milo, Alyssa Milano reached for broccoli when hunger struck. But, as she told Canada.com, her second pregnancy (with daughter Elizabella) was a different story. “This time around, it’s lentils and orange juice.”

Amanda Seyfried

Sometimes it isn’t necessarily the food you crave that’s strange so much as it is the way you crave it. Just ask Amanda Seyfried, who ‘fessed up to her peculiar pregnancy craving. “I eat cottage cheese,” she told W Magazine. “But it’s embarassing when I eat it… I don’t know why. I feel that I need to eat it alone. It’s a very strange thing.”

Ashley Graham

“Feed me all the cravings, literally every emoji except missing cantaloupe,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a series of food emojis, including corn, salad, honey, donuts, cucumber, coffee, and strawberries. Classic pregnancy!

Behati Prinsloo

When supermodel Behati Prinsloo was expecting her second child with husband Adam Levine, her go-to snack was fruit. But not just any fruit. In her Instagram story, she revealed that she couldn’t get enough of apple slices sprinkled with Tajin seasoning — a Mexican seasoning salt made with chile powder and dehydrated lime. Um, yum?

Beyoncé

In a 2011 interview with Life & Style, Queen Bey’s mom, Tina Knowles, said the singer had one major pregnancy craving: waffles! And, admittedly, that’s not crazy. Who doesn’t want waffles all the time? But Beyoncé makes the crazy pregnancy roundup for her rumored cravings! Although she has since debunked the notion, the widely circulating word during her pregnancies was that she doused everything in ketchup. Blech! We don’t blame her for sticking to breakfast food (with syrup, not ketchup).

Blake Lively

One of the funniest things about pregnancy cravings is that they often include two foods that, separately, sound amazing. It’s in the combination where things get weird. Take, for instance, Blake Lively, who reportedly sends husband Ryan Reynolds out to fetch “organic hand-churched pumpkin-flavored ice cream and small-batch pickles” when she’s preggo (via The Mirror). Granted, Blake Lively herself has not directly confirmed this craving. But, c’mon, doesn’t it sound exactly like something she’d eat?

Carrie Underwood

Country superstar Carrie Underwood reverts to Freshman year eating habits when she’s expecting. Chatting with Rachael Ray in 2014, she admitted, “I think I give myself license to have things I might not normally have. Sometimes I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and I’ll be like, ‘Man, I’m hungry’ and then I’ll get up and have a midnight snack, which I’ve never done before. I ate Pop-Tarts. I haven’t done that since college.”

Claudia Schiffer

You can take the girl out of Germany, but you can’t take the Germany out of the girl! During her pregnancy in 2010, she confessed to Vogue U.K. that she craved proper German beer during her pregnancy. And while she didn’t drink the hard stuff, she nipped the cravings with the non-alcoholic version.

Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer Godwin’s babies apparently had similar preferences in utero. Speaking with E! News in 2016, she revealed, “My biggest craving with this pregnancy is banana peppes. The last pregnancy, I was all about jalapenos, which aren’t very far from the banana tree.”

Hilary Duff

Baby gets what baby wants! Or, in this case, Mama’s technically the one making demands. In 2018, Hilary Duff and fiance Matthew Koma revealed that she sent him to six stores to find a very specific pregnancy-craving candy. “Good & Plenty — not [to be confused with] Mike and Ikes,” said Koma, before Duff apologized, adding, “Mike and Ikes suck.”

Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson has never been one to hold back the truth, even when it involves something super bizarre — like her pregnancy eating habits. “I had a buttered Pop Tart this morning,” she told Extra while she was pregnant with her first daughter, Maxwell. “Random… I’m eating a lot of stuff that I ate in my childhood. Kraft Mac n’ Cheese, Pop Tarts, Cap’n Crunch. I give in to my cravings. I’m like ‘Yeah, I can do it. We’ll worry about the rest afterwards.’”

Joanna Gaines

Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines craves a wide variety of good, old-fashioned comfort food when she’s pregnant. “Woke up this morning at 2:30 AM and was craving Fruity Pebbles, a pimento cheese sandwich, chicken spaghetti, deviled eggs, and ranch dressing. Didn’t have any of that so I made myself some cookies,” she shared on Instagram during her pregnancy with baby Crew.

Kourtney Kardashian

This Kardashian wasn’t ashamed of her pregnancy cravings, even when they led to strange looks. In an interview with Natural Health in 2014, she said, “I develop a thing for Nilla Wafer cookies every time [I’m pregnant]. I have no idea why! I’ve also been into cheese and pickle sandwiches. Everyone thinks I’m gross when I order them.”

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis’ pregnancy craving will make you feel either revolted or hungry. It all depends on how you feel about this particular type of food. “I’m very stereotypical. I eat sauerkraut all day long,” she said during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “This is the worst craving to have because sauerkraut smells, and so every time you open up the jar it just reeks in the whole kitchen… It’s not like ice cream where everything smells lovely.”

Milla Jovovich

Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich experienced a craving that, quite frankly, sounds a little like something her character would have eaten on the post-apocalyptic franchise. Speaking with Britain’s Grazia magazine (via People), she said, “I was craving bone marrow one day, and I scoured the whole of Paris searching for the leg of a cow. When I finally found what I was looking for, I cut it in half, digging out the yellowish substance, slathering it all over bread.”

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman’s baby bump made her turn to all things acidic. When asked by Access Hollywood‘s Shaun Robinson what she couldn’t get enough of during pregnancy, she replied matter-of-factly, “Anything with vinegar.”

Peta Murgatroyd

TBH, we kind of love (and envy) Peta Murgatroyd’s laid-back approach to pregnancy cravings. “I really crave cold ice cream for any time of the day. I could wake up and have it for breakfast, which I have a couple of times,” she admitted to E! News, adding that she also craves salty stuff. “The past months, I was craving pickles and vinegar.”

Zoe Saldana

During her pregnancy in 2014, Zoe Saldana alluded to a pregnancy craving combo that might sound off-putting to anyone not dealing with hormonal hunger. “Food just tastes so delicious,” she gushed on The Late, Late Show. “It’s really good because you trick yourself. Working in Hollywood, you trick yourself, going, ‘That burger’s disgusting. A burger is awful,’ but now that you’re pregnant, you’re like, ‘I can eat all of that together at the same time! I can have the pickle with the doughnut and it will probably be life-changing.’” Pickles and donuts together? So preggo.

Laura Prepon

For Orange Is the New Black star Laura Prepon, pregnancy cravings proved to be quite nostalgic. As she explained on Live With Kelly and Ryan in 2017 (via People), her childhood included trips to the deli with her dad for pastrami sandwiches on rye bread and Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry soda. “I haven’t eaten that stuff in years, and since I’ve been pregnant I’ve been craving kind of like this Jewish deli food, with the pickles and the sauerkraut and mustard,” she shared. “So we kind of delve into that.”
