Yazmin Oukhellou has recounted a harrowing 2022 which saw her escape the devastating car crash which killed her boyfriend Jake McLean.

The Only Way Is Essex star Yazmin, 28, was caught up in the horror smash in Turkey in July this year when Jake’s blue Mercedes E class saloon plunged down from a mountainous road and into a ravine in Bodrum.

Reality star Yazmin was hospitalised after she was seriously injured while sitting in the passenger seat and she took to Instagram on New Year’s Eve on Saturday to share an empowering post about her ‘self healing’ while she spoke out about her difficulties since the accident.

Tough year: Yazmin Oukhellou, 28, has recounted a harrowing 2022 which saw her escape the devastating car crash which killed her boyfriend Jake McLean

She wrote: ”This year was the year that changed my life forever. I lived through something I shouldn’t have.

‘I learned that I am not as weak as I thought I was. I learned the importance of family and good friends and I learned that each and everyday is a simply a blessing.

‘There are nights I still cry myself to sleep and days I put my phone on aeroplane mode and hide away from the world and that is okay.

Accident: The Only Way Is Essex star Yazmin was caught up in the horror smash in Turkey in July this year when Jake’s blue Mercedes E class saloon plunged off a mountainous road

‘There are days I glam myself up and post on here so that everyone thinks I’m doing great and living my best life. And you know what that’s okay too.

‘If you are on a self healing journey you do whatever you feel is right for you and to put it quite frankly f**k what anyone else has to say on the matter. Live life for YOU because this is your story and no one else’s.

‘I have had so many people judge me, give opinions, make up stories and I used to care but since nearly losing my life I couldn’t give a s**t.

Crash fall out: Reality star Yazmin was hospitalised after she was seriously injured while sitting in the passenger seat

Looking back: Yazmin shared a number of moments from the months since the crash on Instagram on Saturday as she looked back

Healing: Yazmin said she was on a journey of ‘self healing’ as she shared an image of herself in a medical appointment

‘What I have realised is that life is way too short and those people passing comments probably wouldn’t even be functioning if they were in your situation right now.

‘So for 2023 make a pact with yourself to live your life for YOU. LOVE yourself more. Make TIME for yourself. LEARN to enjoy your own company. All of this will EMPOWER you so that you don’t seek validation from insignificant people or even bat an eyelid when their unkind or untrue words whisper.

‘I for one will be living 2023 like it’s my last year on earth. I will be doing whatever makes me happy. I will be cutting off / blocking / deleting anyone who doesn’t serve to my happiness and I will be giving ZERO second chances.

Building back strength: The star included some clips of her exercising in a short video while she wrote in the caption about recovering from the crash

‘So here’s to any of you who have got up out of bed this morning despite what you have been through. Those of you who put on a smile and post and make out you’re doing amazing. Those of you who simply fake it til you make it. Because at the end of the day that’s just what we all simply do.

‘I’m proud of you and I wish you the best 2023 and remember “everything is written in the stars.” Love Yaz.’

Yazmin – who now suffers from PTSD, nightmares, flashbacks and panic attacks – receives therapy now for her anxiety after thinking she would never get over the ordeal.

Strength: ‘If you are on a self healing journey you do whatever you feel is right for you and to put it quite frankly f**k what anyone else has to say on the matter,’ she wrote (pictured at the Pride of Britain awards in October)

It was claimed the couple had a blazing row at a nightclub shortly before the crash, something which Jake’s mum Anita Walsh told Turkish authorities she believed could have played a role in her son’s death.

This led to a bitter fallout between Yazmin and Anita, who banned the reality star from Jake’s funeral in Essex.

Jake’s secret girlfriend Chloe Hennessey, 27, a beauty therapist, was invited to the funeral and posted a series of touching photos on Instagram of the couple, paying tribute to the man she will ‘love forever’.

Healing: It comes after Yazmin shared a picture revealing her scarred arm after she injured it while trying to escape the terrifying car crash

Yazmin previously shared pictures of her scarred arm after she injured it while trying to escape the wrecked vehicle.

Last month she shared a poignant message about having scars on Instagram, writing: ‘Every scar is a reminder not just that you got hurt, but that you survived.’

She has also previously spoken about how she desperately tried to wake Jake after the crash in Turkey, but he was unresponsive.

In a raw interview she said she was ‘torn apart by grief’ for Jake and told of the horrific trolling she has received from people for moving on with her life.

She told The Sun: ‘I tried to wake Jake up, but he wasn’t waking. I tried to beep the horn with my foot, but I couldn’t reach it.

‘We were in the middle of nowhere and so screaming for help wasn’t any good. I knew I had to get out of the car and somehow I found the strength to free my arm by lifting it with my left hand, moving my right arm up and dropping it back down for what felt like forever until I snapped it free.’
