What We Know About Madonna’s New Documentary

02/18/2021

As many have longed for the thrill of concerts, Netflix has certainly delivered when it comes to offering live performances to watch from the comfort of your home. Now, pop legend Madonna is following the likes of Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift by teaming up with the streamer to bring fans behind the scenes of her Madame X tour, The Daily Mail reports.

The tour ran from 2019 to 2020 and featured performances as her alter ego, Madame X, based on her fourteenth album, with the final two appearances getting cancelled due the pandemic. The outlet also reports that the Queen of Pop banned the use of cell phones as to make for an “intimate” and “interactive” ambiance. Those devices would go straight into locked containers and only security guards had the keys. Now, fans will get to see parts of the closed-doors tour on their TVs screens.

Giving it her all, Madonna struggled through hip and knee injuries throughout her time touring and the documentary will give a first-hand look into the 62-year-old’s recovery. The Mirror also reports that the Madame X tour even cancelled various shows before the pandemic due to her injuries. Covering the ups and downs of the intense journey, the documentary showcases intimate parts of her professional and personal life.

Madonna was very hands-on with the project

As far as making the new film, it appears that Madonna did some of the compilation herself, The Daily Mail explains — even editing as needed. The break from touring may have done the singer’s body good and allowed her to dive deep into her project with Netflix. On Instagram, the mother-of-six donned her scars from her hip and knee procedures with pride, dubbing them “beautiful” and chronicling her hard work, according to the outlet. Getting a behind-the-scenes look at Madonna’s life, fans will be able to see her creative process and recovery like never before.

But, beyond the documentary, the pop star is also working on an autobiographical film of her life, The Mirror reports. The best-selling female recording artist of all time is currently working with the screenwriter Diablo Cody, best known for her work in Juno, and audiences have yet to discover who will play Madonna herself. This documentary is actually her second; in 1991 she released Truth or Dare, a film that chronicled her Blonde Ambition tour (via The Daily Mail).

The singer has six children; Lourdes, 24, Rocco, 20, David Banda, 15, Mercy James, 14, and twins Stelle and Estere, 8, Harper’s Bazaar notes. After having her older children with Carlos Leon and Guy Ritchie, Madonna adopted her younger four children from Malawi, according to Parade. And, if they didn’t think their mom was cool already, a deal with Netflix should do the trick!
