First Dates presenter Fred Sirieix has been vocal in his support for his daughter Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix as she prepared to compete as part of Team GB’s diving team in the Tokyo Olympics earlier this year. After making her way to Tokyo, Andrea, who is the country’s youngest ever diver, aged 16, finished in seventh place in the Olympic Games’ Women’s 10m platform dive, before an emotional reunion with her family following her final dive,

I am very, very proud of where I came

Ever the doting father, Fred posted a clip of his daughter’s penultimate dive in view of his 747,000 followers.

He wrote: “And onto the final!”, adding the hashtags, “#tokyo2020 #olympics #diving #platform #10m #teamgb #goAndrea.”

After completing her last dive and achieving seventh place, the Channel 4 star wrote an endearing “Well done Andrea” next to a picture of his smiling daughter.

Following the final, the teen broke down as she spoke to her family over video call.

Andrea was reunited with her father, mother Alex, and other family members after she competed in her first Olympic Games.

The First Dates star and Andrea’s mother were not allowed to attend the Olympic Games to watch their daughter dive due to coronavirus restrictions that are in place in the country.

Addressing her performance, she said: “I am so happy. I was speaking to my family because there is an Athlete Moment screen and I started crying.

“I am very, very proud of where I came.”

The athlete added that she was worried she wouldn’t be able to control her nerves, but said that she “exceeded” her own expectations.

“I was extremely nervous before the prelims so I thought my nerves would get the better of me and I wouldn’t make it to the semi,” Andrea said.

“Then after the semi I got into the final and that was exactly what I wanted to do. That was my plan. I’ve definitely exceeded my expectations.”

The diver said that she was already looking ahead to the next Olympic Games in France, saying that she hopes her family will be there in person to support her.

Andrea explained: “It definitely gives me confidence for Paris (2024). That is very close, so my whole family can come.

“Hopefully, hopefully COVID has gone because I want my family to come and watch. I am very, very excited.”

Detailing the emotional call she had with her family, Andrea said: “My dad, my mum and my cousins and my aunties were on the Athlete Moment.

“They said that they were very proud and that I should be proud as well. They said they miss me and I miss them. It just went back and forth,” she finished.

The Women’s 10 metre platform dive saw China’s Quan Hongchan take gold, Chen Yuxi of China take silver, and Australia’s Melissa Wu landing bronze.

Following the result, This Morning’s Gino D’ Acampo left a row of applauding hands on Fred’s latest post.

Gordon Ramsey also commented, writing: “Brilliantly done darling well done.”

While Olympian Iwan Thomas penned to Fred: “You must be immensely proud”, next to a thumbs-up emoji.
