In 2002 Michael Jackson’s best friend, David Gest, married Liza Minnelli in what was at the time a glamorous star-studded wedding.

As well as the king of pop being at the nuptials, OK! magazine also attended the bash along with a huge list of showbiz names.

EastEnders actress Martine McCutcheon played the role of bridesmaid and Michael Jackson was the best man.

Entertainer Liza wed producer David in March, 2002, in New York City’s Marble Collegiate Church with best man Michael Jackson.

Backed by a 60-piece orchestra, Tony Bennett entertained the 500 guests belting some of his classic hits.

At the time the wedding was one of the most expensive celebrity nuptials ever, racking up a total cost of $3.5million.

The happy couple were originally introduced to each other by Michael Jackson, who was best friends with David.

Together, David and Michael worked alongside each other promoting concerts and a one-off TV show banking around $20million.

David had even booked Liza to perform at one of his concerts before they started dating.

For the big wedding day Liza wore a Bob Mackie off the shoulder pearl white dress that showed off her décolletage.

Carrying a simple cream bouquet of roses the singer and daughter of Judy Garland looked smitten as she posed for pictures with her new husband.

David also kept things low-key with his outfit opting for a black tuxedo with matching bow-tie.

According to Page Six, David said of his bride: “She’s the most beautiful woman in the world.”

Donald Trump declared the nuptials “the best” he had ever attended.

David dismissed rumours that he was a gold digger adding: “I was already set for life when I met her.

“I had just done a Michael Jackson 30th anniversary celebration. We did well over $20 million.

"And we owned that, Michael and I. She was, as she said in interviews, basically broke. So I didn’t marry her for anything that she could give me as far as financially.

"I just loved the woman. I mean, I just loved her, unconditionally loved her.”

Sadly the matrimony wasn't to last and the pair parted ways officially divorcing after five years of marriage.

David would later go on to appear on reality shows I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Celebrity Big Brother, which he left early due to medical reasons.
