Suranne Jones, 42, shared with her followers on Instagram how her father had died of Covid-19. Penning an emotional post for her late mother’s birthday, she said her family was still “coming to terms with it”.

The Doctor Foster star shared a family photo of her and her father on the beach with her 358,000 followers.

In the caption, she explained how her father had died from Covid-19 earlier this year.

She also revealed she had decided to share the news to mark her mother’s birthday.

Suranne penned: “Happy birthday mum forever on a beach in Cornwall with dad.

“Mum passed away 4 and a half years ago and my father sadly passed away this January after fighting Covid and the affect it had on his body.

“We are still coming to terms with it all but I know they are together and today I want to celebrate them both.”

The Gentleman Jack star added: “My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones. Today and always.”

The actor turned off comments on the post but it was liked by more than 18,000 people.

Among those supporting her was Corrie star, Sally Lindsay.

Suranne has previously opened up about the pain of losing her mother to Vascular Dementia.

She said as part of a campaign back in 2019: “My mum was diagnosed at quite a young age, in her late fifties, and her dementia accelerated quite fast.”

The star then bonded with a sufferer named Paul Hoskins to discuss the disease.

Suranne continued: “Sometimes when you talk about dementia, people imagine it’s a term that only refers to old people.

“It’s important to highlight the experiences of people like Paul, who is only in his fifties and really sprightly.

“As my mum was a similar age when she was diagnosed, it was enlightening to meet someone who was going through a similar experience to hers, with such optimism and strength.”

Suranne first began her career in the year 2000 when she landed the role of Karen Phillips in Coronation Street.

After leaving the soap in 2004, she went on to land some huge roles in television dramas.

This includes her Bafta-winning turn in the BBC hit series Doctor Foster.

She has also starred in Scott & Bailey, Unforgiven, Save Me and Gentleman Jack.

Next, Suranne will be appearing in a BBC police drama called Vigil, which is expected out later this year.
