Stacey Solomon has candidly opened up on boyfriend Joe Swash’s grief after losing his father during the early years of his life.

The 31 year old Loose Women star explained to panellists how she made a picture of Joe’s late father Ricky with their son Rex but Joe, 38, couldn’t bring himself to look at it.

Stacey, who recently shared her unusual nighttime habit, appeared alongside Nadia Sawalha, Jane Moore and Kaye Adams on the Loose Women panel to discuss Kanye West’s recent gift of a hologram of Kim’s late father for her birthday.

She revealed she had done a similar gesture for Joe, who she shares son Rex with.

TV star Stacey said: “For Joe's birthday last year, I gave him a picture where someone had drawn in his dad with Rex because obviously he lost his dad at such a young age.

“He never got to see any of his children and grandchildren. I thought it was amazing to be able to see what they would look like together.

“But Joe hates it. He can't look at it at all. He found it really difficult.

“It was my own ignorance really because I hadn't actually asked how he would feel about it.

“How he deals with grief is to completely lock the door on it and put it to the back of his head.”

She added: “Whenever something big in his life happens, like when Rex was born, he really struggles.

“I tell him that we should have photos of his dad around the house, but he doesn’t want them.”

Former EastEnders actor Joe’s father Ricky, who was a London cab driver, died when the star was just 11.

Ricky passed away from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome, after he had an undiagnosed heart condition.

Joe, who recently opened up on picking Stacey Solomon’s engagement ring, previously recalled how he had to call his father an ambulance in a videotape ahead of one of his Dancing on Ice performances.

Speaking in the VT, Joe explained he would be skating to Simple Red’s song Stars, which was his mum and dad’s favourite song.

He said: “I’m probably so different to the person I would have been if he was… it's hard… it's a hard thing.

“I miss my dad every day. There's so much I'd love to show him.

“There are so many things I've done and experienced that I could have shared with him.”
