Some ‘Game of Thrones’ Fans Are Confused About This One Emmys Nomination

07/16/2019

Game of Thrones broke a record for most Emmy nominations for one season of a show with the 2019 Emmy Awards nominations revealed on Tuesday (July 16), but one nomination is causing confusion among fans – and for a not-so-nice reason!

The HBO hit series was nominated in many categories, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress and Outstanding Lead Actor.

One, however, is causing controversy: Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for ‘The Iron Throne,’ which was the show’s series finale episode.

While fans generally raved for the episode “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” during the final seasons, reactions to the final episode were decidedly mixed, even resulting in some of the cast defending their show.

Co-creators D.B. Weiss and David Beioff were even involved in a shaming campaign by some fans, with their names being the first result for a Google search for “bad writers.”
