Riley Green has responded to the backlash he received for a tweet he posted about Shakira and Jennifer Lopez‘s performance during their Super Bowl halftime show.

Shakira and Lopez performed bilingual hits during halftime of the Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.

Following the performance, Green tweeted, “Great game… but can I get somebody to translate this Super Bowl halftime show so I know what they are singing about??”

The tweet, however, created a huge uproar, with several calling it “stupid,” “tasteless” and “racist,” among other responses.

However, Green tweeted again on Tuesday to explain his intent, saying, “To my fans and those who know me THANK YOU for the support. To anyone offended by my tweet saying I wanted to know what Shakira was singing about….I’m a country songwriter and I listen for the story.”

“I said and meant nothing negative about anyone,” Green added. “Both are very talented women.”
