Richard Hammond, 51, has described his new television venture as a “genuine passion project”. The Discovery + programme, Richard Hammond’s Workshop, will follow the car enthusiast as he starts a classic car restoration business.

Richard is joined by father and son duo Neil and Anthony Greenhouse, who have been working on his cars for many years.

The Grand Tour star said he wanted to provide a bigger workshop for the pair to match their capabilities.

Back in June, Richard told fans that he was “taking the plunge” and setting up his workshop in Hereford.

The Smallest Cog is now open for business.

Richard, who became a household name presenting car show Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson and James May, said he would never try and compete with the Clarkson’s Farm star.

It comes after the 61-year-old presenter launched his own Amazon show which saw him set up and run Diddly Squat Farm and shop in the Cotswolds.

In the early stages of setting up the workshop, Richard realised that it might make a good television show and got it commissioned.

At the same time, Jeremy was filming his series.

Speaking of the format of the new programme, Richard said: “It’s very much not a produced TV show, the cameras follow us on this sometimes nightmarish journey as we get the business going.”

He said it had a “slightly different feel” to Jeremy’s show.

“What I’m trying to say is that I would never try and compete with Jeremy on a TV show because he is Jeremy Clarkson, but it’s interesting that those parallels were happening at the same time,” he told The Sun’s TV Mag.

“He is genuinely and, genuinely always has been, passionate about his farm and I’ve always been passionate about classic cars and the restoration of them.”

Yesterday, Richard announced that his series was available to download on the streaming service.

“My new show is out now! #richardhammondsworkshop,” he wrote on Instagram, alongside a trailer.

In the footage he can be seen at work in the garage.

“Right now I feel initially a bit scared. Then excited. And then I feel scared again,” he is heard saying of the new venture.

Many took to the comments section of the post to give the presenter their verdict on his latest television offering.

Meanwhile, others vented their frustration that the show was on another streaming service.

“Amazing show!!! I loved it, I can’t wait to watch Episode 2 now!!!” Instagram user nicolelrh wrote.

“Loved the first episode. Looking forward to coming to see the workshop soon,” willber_83 added.

“I don’t have discovery+” user _.mony83._ wrote alongside a crying face emoji.

“Definitely not paying for yet another subscription,” cjfletcher85 remarked.
