Queen is taking ‘comfort’ from her work during the ‘most difficult time of her reign’

The Queen is said to be taking “comfort” from her work during the “most difficult time of her reign” according a royal expert.

Speaking exclusively to OK!, Katie Nicholl tells us that the Queen’s royal duties have kept her busy and “young and fit” following the death of her beloved husband Prince Philip earlier this year.

She said: “She finds comfort in her job, she enjoys the job, and it keeps her young and fit.

“But of course, behind the scenes, in private, it’s probably been the hardest time of her reign. She’s always had Philip by her side.”

Katie, author of The Making of a Royal Romance, adds that Philip, who was aged 99 when he passed away in April, was “everything” to the 95 year old.

“In his absence, her family is incredibly important. They are everything,” she says.

The Queen and her husband were married for an incredible 73 years after tying the knot on 20 November 1947.

Her majesty has slowly been returning to her engagements and duties after an overnight stay at London’s King Edward VII hospital in October.

She made her first public appearance at the weekend when she attended the christening of her great grandsons August and Lucas in Windsor.

Both Princess Eugenie’s son August and Zara Tindall’s son Lucas were given the middle name Philip and their joint christening happened just one day after what would have been The Queen and Prince Philip’s 74th wedding anniversary.

It appeared to be a sweet and significant tribute from the 31 and 40 year old cousins to their grandparents.

It was unclear whether the royal, who wore lime green, would be able to attend her great grandsons’ christening after a sprained back left her unable to attend the annual Remembrance Sunday events earlier in the month.

At the time of her hospital stay a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said that the royal had attended hospital for some “preliminary investigations”.

This led to a trip to Northern Ireland being cancelled, while she also had to address world leaders and members of the royal family attending Cop26 via video instead of making an in-person address.

This came after she was advised to rest for at least another two weeks on 29 October.

The Queen has been carrying out “light, desk-based duties” since her hospital stay, including a virtual meeting with the ambassador from the Republic of Korea from Windsor Castle, while she has also been spotted driving her Jaguar around her Windsor estate this month.
