Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday Parade Scrapped in Light of COVID-19 Pandemic

A statement issued by Buckingham Palace officials notes that a number of other options in place of the Trooping the Colour event, which is typically held in June, are being considered.

AceShowbiz -The coronavirus pandemic has claimed Queen Elizabeth II’s annual birthday parade in London.

The Trooping the Colour event is typically held in June as an official celebration for the British monarch’s birthday, but this year’s grand military parade has been ditched as the world continues to grapple with the spread of COVID-19.

“In line with Government advice, it has been agreed that The Queen’s Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping the Colour, will not go ahead in its traditional form,” reads a statement issued by Buckingham Palace officials.

“A number of other options are being considered, in line with relevant guidance.”

The Queen’s actual birthday falls on April 21, when she will turn 94.

The news emerges shortly after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, two days after the heir to the throne, Prince Charles, also went public with his diagnosis.

A spokesperson for the Queen confirmed on Friday that she “remains in good health,” although it’s not clear if she has been tested after meeting with both Johnson and her eldest son earlier this month.

Meanwhile, in other royal news, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, have reportedly relocated from their temporary base in Vancouver Island, Canada to set up a more permanent home in the former actress’ native California.

The Duke and Duchess will officially step down as senior members of the royal family next week after previously announcing their desire to lead a more private life with their baby son, Archie.
