Prince Harry’s risks royal wrath as memoir ‘to be released’ day after Kate Middleton’s birthday

10/27/2022

Prince Harry’s autobiography is reportedly set to hit the shelves in January – the day after Kate Middleton’s birthday.

Publication of the long-awaited memoir has already been delayed, with reports suggesting the Duke of Sussex, 38, had to make last-minute changes in the wake ofQueen ElizabethII’s death.

And there are fears that bombshell revelations in the book could marKing Charles’ coronation next year while also coming as an unwanted, late birthday present forPrincess Kate.

Publishing insiders have revealed that Harry’s memoirs will be released on 10 January, 2023, which is the day after the Princess of Wales’ 41st birthday.

The date also just about marks the three-year anniversary of Harry andMeghan’s official exit from theRoyal Family – in a move dubbed ‘Megxit’ – on 8 January, 2020.

Harry’s memoir was set to be released in autumn 2022 but industry executives toldThe New York Times that publisher Penguin Random House has agreed to delay it until next year.

It has emerged that the Duke got an advance of around £17.5m for the memoir as part of a £35m, four-book deal.

The “wholly truthful” book has been ghost-written by American novelist JR Moehringer, who wrote the 2009 autobiography of former tennis star Andre Agassi and is said to specialise in dissecting broken family relationships, especially between father and son.

Harry, in a promotional statement for the memoir, said he was “excited for people to read a first-hand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful”.

He added: “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become.

“I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story — the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned — I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.”

When the book deal was announced last year, Penguin Random House described the autobiography as “intimate and heartfelt”.

It has previously been reported that the prince tried to make last-minute alterations to the memoir, with sources saying he feared parts would be deemed insensitive so soon after the Queen’s death and his dad Charles, 73, taking the throne.

Buckingham Palace is said to be in a high state of alarm over his memoir, as it is likely to contain explosive stories about the monarchy – including brotherPrince Williamand wife the Princess of Wales.

Matt Latimer, co-founder of the Javelin marketing agency, questioned the Prince's incentive behind sharing his tell-all memoirs.

The literary agent said to The New York Times: “Is his goal to enhance his celebrity with a certain sector of the public, or is it to repair the rift with his family?

“Those are competing goals to some extent, and it’s hard to do both.”
