Piers Morgan slams Harry and Meghan Markle as ‘scheming Kardashian-wannabes’

Piers Morgan has dubbed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle the 'new Kardashians' in a scathing response to their royal announcement.

Yesterday evening, the Duke and Duchess outlined bombshell plans to step down as senior royals and embrace 'a progressive new role' where they would be financially independent.

The decision prompted Piers to label Meghan an 'unsavoury social-climbing piece of work' in a column for the Mail , where he also likened the former Suits actress' 'social climbing' to that of reality TV family The Kardashians.

After propelling to fame from Kim's sex tape, the Kardashians have moved from their humble E! reality series to landing influential Vogue covers and delivering speeches at the White House.

After hearing of Harry and Meghan's new independent career plans, which they allegedly didn't consult the Queen on, Piers dubbed the pair the 'New Kardashians.'

He blasted: "So, they want the glitz, the glamour, the splendour and the stupendous wealth….they just don't want to have to actually earn it."

He went on: "They want to be super-woke celebrities (with all the outrageous 'Do as we say not as we do' hectoring hypocrisy they've already brought to that status) who get to keep all the trappings of royal life without any of the hard, boring bits and the right to cash in on their status however they choose."

As part of the new role they've created, Harry and Meghan envision themselves breaking free from the traditional Royal Rota system to instead invite journalists of their choosing to events they wish to support.

Piers scoffed that even Vladimir Putin wouldn't attempt to 'control' the press in such a way.

The former journalist fired: "There is zero chance of the media following any 'rules' for covering these two now they've swapped royal duty for money-grabbing celebrity stardom.

"If they want to be the new Kardashians , they'll get treated like the new Kardashians."

It's not the first time Piers has verbally attacked Meghan Markle.

He previously claimed that she 'ghosted him' after she fell in love with Prince Harry .

After Meghan's relationship with the Prince went public, Piers has regularly aired his views on the former actress – and not much of it favourable.

In November, he slammed Meghan for 'playing the victim' and said she orchestrated a documentary to 'make it like like woe is me.'

"She’s playing the media game very carefully, making it look like a victim," he fired.

He has also dubbed Harry and Meghan 'hypocrites' for preaching about climate change while using private jets and accused the Duchess of 'chopping people' out of her life following her rift with her father.

When the news of the Sussex's decision to step down as senior royals hit last night, Piers was one of the first to respond on social media.

He said: "People say I'm too critical of Meghan Markle – but she ditched her family, ditched her Dad, ditched most of her old friends, split Harry from William & has now split him from the Royal Family. I rest my case."

Many other famous faces have shared a different view and vocalised their support for Harry and Meghan, who are parents to son Archie.

David Walliams called them the 'coolest couple' while Amanda Holden said their gain would be the nation's loss.

"It’s a shame because I feel that Harry is the more fun down to earth one so we’ll kind of lose a bit of sparkle I think," Amanda mused on her Heart FM Breakfast show.
