Piers Morgan, 56,  has claimed James Bond has been “neutered by the PC brigade” in his latest outing No Time To Die. The former Good Morning Britain presenter slammed the film starring Daniel Craig, 53, as “humourless” and lacking “seduction”.

Piers typed: “Where the latest movie fails is that it contains virtually no humour, devilish charm, or seduction.

“James Bond has been neutered by the PC brigade to the extent that he’s not even allowed to chat up Miss Moneypenny, presumably for fear she would immediately call HR to have him suspended for inappropriate conduct in the workplace,” he added in his MailOnline column.

Piers continued: “And when confronted by one of the hottest ever Bond girls (sorry, I mean ‘brainy Bond people’) in the form of scene-stealing Ana de Armas, Hollywood’s most legendary womaniser morphs into a bashful asexual monk.”

Craig’s last hurrah as Bond has widely been touted by film critics and cast members alike as the Bond film with the most power parity between the male and female characters.

Lea Seydoux, who plays Madeleine Swann in the latest film, hailed Craig for helping grow Bond’s relationship with women in No Time To Die, saying the female characters are “not here only to please his sexuality”.

Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge was even recruited to add her own feminist flair to the script.

Since the release of “Dr. No” in 1962, the British spy had turned into an international icon. With his heavy yet stylish drinking, fast cars, loud guns, and beautiful women, Bond became more than a character or a man, he became a lifestyle.

Each Bond has been different. Sean Connery, the first, was serious, cynical, and promiscuous. Roger Moore was elegant, light-hearted, and playful. Piers Brosnan had the looks of the perfect Bond.

Then came Craig and at first fans were disappointed. Some fans felt like he’s the wrong type for the role, they called him “James Blonde” or “James Bland”, and feared for the franchise’s future.

What set off many of the disappointed fans was the fact that with Craig, the producers decided to reboot the franchise. “Casino Royale”, Craig’s first Bond film, was also due to go back to Bond’s origins and show the young spy receiving the iconic 007 status and the license to kill.

In Bond movies, women were often portrayed in a degrading way. Female characters were usually lacking any real depth or intelligence, their goal was to ooze sex appeal.

More often than not it seemed like the Bond girls were placed in the film merely as props for Bond’s pleasure.

Times were different back then, and Bond is not the only movie franchise to show scenes that would not be acceptable today.

And yet, Bond is a long-living symbol, a lifestyle, he’s still a current fantasy. When it became clear that some of his most characteristic features are no longer relevant, it seemed there was no other choice but to start over and create a new Bond. A politically correct Bond.

Craig’s Bond was different. He was dark, complex, and sensitive. The new Bond fell in love, his heart was broken, he was tormented by killing. He was real.

The women surrounding Bond were different too. Moneypenny was no longer a secretary but a fierce field agent. Vesper Lynd and Dr. Madeleine Swann are strong and intelligent, balancing Bond and sometimes outdoing him.

Although some disagreed with the modernisation of the film franchise, many thought Craig brought depth and evolved the character in a way that makes the previous Bonds seem like a caricature.

The latest film has mostly received rave reviews from critics, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it 88 per cent out of 100.

Mark Feeney from the Boston Globe wrote: “With this fifth and final go-round, it’s clear who the best Bond is. It’s Craig, Daniel Craig.”

While film reviewer, Lynn Venhaus remarked: “And in a welcome surprise – assertive women show up in an impressive triumvirate of Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch and Lea Seydoux.”
