Having already jetted to the Bahamas, Dubai and the Maldives among other countries in the past year alone, Tamara looked ready to ring in the festive season with her sister.

Dressed in light wash ripped denim shorts and a plunging ribbed green swimsuit, the Formula 1 heiress watched as her sister did a series of exercises with a resistance band.

A toned Petra, who welcomed a baby girl in April last year, displayed her washboard abs as she did a series of squats.

Omicron: Prof Whitty said that a rise in Omicron hospitalisations is ‘nailed on’ after cases hit a record high on Wednesday. Cases eclipse previous highest count by 10,000 – when 68,053 were recorded in January

The trip to Mexico comes after their father Bernie defended his daughters for travelling abroad while the world was in lockdown.

Tamara and Jay had been to seven countries since the start of lockdown; the Bahamas, Croatia, Switzerland, the U.K, Dubai, The Maldives and America- but Bernie, 91, said they did so because where she lived in Gstaad Switzerland was ‘very cold’.

The billionaire former F1 boss said neither Tamara or her sister Petra had broken any anti-Covid laws by jetting to different countries and had good reasons to do so.

Petra, meanwhile, travelled with her fiancé Sam Palmer, 37, and four children from London to Croatia to LA, then Switzerland, Monaco and France, then back to LA, Monaco, and The Maldives before travelling back to Monaco since March last year.

Checking up on things: Petra looked at her phone as she headed to her towel after working up a sweat with her beach workout

Chilling out: The sisters set up camp for a day at the beach at a sun lounger  and looked thoroughly relaxed

Speaking to MailOnline, Bernie, said in June: ‘They have been travelling around a lot but they’ve 100 per cent broken no laws by doing so. They both have a home in Switzerland for a start so are residents.

‘I think, in Tamara and Jay’s case, they left Switzerland to go somewhere warm because it had been snowing and was very cold in Gstaad.

‘They went to Dubai and from there they disappeared to the Maldives, since they already had a trip there booked for some time and it was easier to fly straight there from Dubai so they didn’t have to break any rules. It was nice and simple, plus the airline tickets at the time were cheaper.’

Across the globe: Petra, herself, had previously defended travelling to seven countries in lockdown to ‘escape coronavirus’, claiming that ‘others would if they could

Petra, herself, had previously defended travelling to seven countries in lockdown to ‘escape coronavirus’, claiming that ‘others would if they could’.

Talking to the Times’ T2 in February, the billionaire asserted she hasn’t broken rules and said: ‘We’re currently in Monaco. For now. Not sure where we’ll be next week . . . We’re very Covid-conscious. We’ve flown completely around the world to try and miss it.

‘What I think we’ve realised now is you can’t run from coronavirus.’

In the UK, meanwhile Boris Johnson and Chris Whitty triggered a ‘tsunamis of cancellations’ for pubs and restaurants by urging the country only to socialise if necessary – and not in large groups or with strangers.

Fun in the sun: The sisters laughed as they larked around on the beach

Prof Whitty said that a rise in Omicron hospitalisations is ‘nailed on’ after cases hit a record high on Wednesday, telling a televised No 10 press briefing: ‘I think that what most people are doing is – and I would think this seems very sensible – is prioritising the social interactions that really matter to them and, to project those ones, de-prioritising ones that matter much less to them.’

And after weeks of refusing to admit Christmas plans could be under threat, the PM told the country to cut back on Christmas partying and ‘think carefully’ before going out during the festive season.

The Independent SAGE group of scientists and medics has called for an immediate 10-day ‘circuit-breaker’ shutdown, with bans on households mixing and the closure of hospitality firms. They accused the Prime Minister of ‘delaying’ from imposing tighter controls and said the time for ’emergency action’ had now come.

Designer garb: Tamara showed off her ample cleavage in the plunging swimsuit which she teamed with a Louis Vuitton visor

Feeling sleepy? Tamara appeared to have a nap on a sun lounger at one point as she basked in Mexico’s sunny climes

The two sisters giggled as they shared a laugh at the resort in Los Cabos

Quality time together: Tamara appeared in high spirits as she chatted animatedly to Petra

Holidays: Tamara and Jay had been to seven countries since the start of lockdown; the Bahamas, Croatia, Switzerland, the U.K, Dubai, The Maldives and America

Relaxing in style: Tamara appeared to making the most of her time off mummy duties as she basked in the sunshine

And doubling down on the Prime Minister’s inference that people must be cut back on socialising to avoid catching Covid over Christmas week, Health Minister Gillian Keegan said: ‘Everybody is urging caution. Most of us will know somebody now who’s positive with Covid, and that means if you’ve tested positive, then you’ll be in isolation over Christmas. So that’s bound to make people a bit more cautious.’

It comes as France has banned British people from visiting the country from Saturday in a hardline effort to try and slow the relentless spread of the Covid Omicron strain.

The French government said no non-essential travellers from the UK will be allowed in from the weekend. It is a hammer blow to those desperately hoping to be able to get away or go skiing over the festive period.

A French government spokesman confirmed there will be a ‘requirement to have an essential reason to travel to, or come from, the UK, both for the unvaccinated and vaccinated’.
