Peter Frampton Recalls Being Asked To Replace Pete Townshend In The Who

Peter Frampton recalls in a new excerpt from his upcoming memoir that he almost replaced The Who guitarist Pete Townshend during a tour by the rock band in the 1980s.

In the excerpt published by Rolling Stone, Frampton explains that Townshend asked him to take his place as guitarist in the Who.

Frampton suggested that Townshend should discuss the offer with other band members Roger Daltrey and John Entwistle.

But the idea did not work out, as “No one would accept the band without ‘Towser,'” Frampton wrote in the memoir titled “Do You Feel Like I Do?”

“And my windmill needed a lot of work, as well as my ten-foot jumps into the air. No way was this a good idea,” he added.

“I love Pete dearly. I have no idea what was going on in his life at that time. I don’t even know if he remembers calling me,” Frampton says about the incident that took place decades ago.

Frampton co-wrote the autobiography with Alan Light. Hachette Books will publish the book on October 20.
