Emily Andre, 31, has been married to pop star and TV personality Peter Andre, 47, since 2015. The doctor has opened up about “massive” news following Good Morning Britain host’s Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper’s progress but admitted he still has “some way to go”.

The small-screen star’s other half was originally admitted to hospital with COVID-19 symptoms on March 30 and remains seriously ill.

Kate has since revealed that it has been a “tough old week” for Derek as he remains in intensive care.

Peter’s wife has now addressed the GMB host’s husband’s health problems as she explained that his ability to say his first words is a big step forward towards his recovery.

Emily said: “It sounds strange to say, but the ability to speak is very complex, using different parts of the brain to process it.

“It sounds like just a small step, but it’s massive and he can now start to tell them how he’s feeling.”

She added: “It sounds like he’s still got some way to go in his recovery and I really hope he continues to make progress.”

Emily’s comments come after Kate revealed Derek had mouthed his first words while in hospital.

She also said the battling psychotherapist’s tracheostomy tube has been removed, and he is now able to breathe without a ventilator.

The GMB host revealed Derek mouthed the word “pain” as doctors manipulated his body to prevent him seizing up.

Peter’s other half also offered her well wishes to Kate and her family as she remains optimistic about Derek’s health.

Emily continued to OK! magazine: “I’m so pleased to hear [Kate’s] husband Derek spoke for the first time since his coronavirus battle.

“He’s so young and has been in hospital for such a long time now.”
