Peter Andre ‘struggles’ to discuss death with his kids fearing he’ll ‘hurt them’

Peter Andre has told how he struggles to discuss the topic of death with his kids as he doesn’t want them “hurting”.

The dad-of-four’s comments came as he opened up about his wife Emily taking their children Millie, eight, and Theo, five, to London on the day of The Queen’s state funeral, as well as his daughter Princess, 15.

Writing in his exclusive column, Pete said that the funeral brought back memories of when his late brother Andrew, who passed away in 2012 of kidney cancer, and how he wanted to shield Princess and Junior, 17, from a lot of what was going on.

The 49 year old said: “Emily took Millie, Theo and Princess into London on the day of The Queen’s funeral.

"Although they weren’t able to see the procession, they soaked up the atmosphere.

“They said it was so busy yet there was such a calmness and Emily said the two-minute silence and singing God Save The King gave her goosebumps.

“Millie and Theo don’t fully understand what has happened but Emily felt it was very important for them to experience it and be a part of history. In the future when they’re talking to their kids about it they can say they were there.

“A lot of parents have spoken about explaining death to their young children and for me I don’t like to give too much information to the kids.

Of course you don’t want to hide them from it completely as otherwise they’ll never understand grief, but I don’t think you need to tell them everything about every sad thing that has happened.”

He continued: “It took me back to when we were sadly losing my brother Andrew and I wouldn’t let Junior or Princess see him at the end.

“I just didn’t want them to see him like that and be hurting, but I did explain he was no longer with us.

“During the Queen’s funeral many spoke about how it brought up thoughts of loved ones they have lost or are elderly.

"I, like many, can relate with my beautiful mother being older and unwell.
