Olivia Wilde supports FKA twigs amid Shia LaBeouf lawsuit12/13/2020
Olivia Wilde has thrown her support behind FKA twigs as the singer sues her ex-boyfriend Shia LaBeouf for sexual battery and abuse.
FKA twigs, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, has filed a lawsuit against the Transformers actor citing sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress.
Reacting to the news, Don’t Worry Darling actress Olivia shared a screenshot of a New York Times report about the lawsuit in her Instagram stories, alongside the caption: ‘Love, respect, and support, @fkatwigs.’
Two Weeks singer FKA twigs made the shocking claims about her relationship with LaBeouf in a lawsuit filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court.
According to the Grammy nominee, LaBeouf was driving recklessly in a car with her shortly after Valentine’s Day in 2019 before removing his seatbelt and threatening to crash unless she professed her love for him.
The lawsuit alleges that FKA twigs was abused ‘physically, emotionally, and mentally many times in a relationship that lasted just short of a year’.
LaBeouf addressed the claims and told The New York Times in an email: ‘I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behaviour made them feel.
‘I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalisations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years.
‘I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.’
When he was given a more detailed account of the claims, he responded in another email that ‘many of these allegations are not true’, but that he owed the women ‘the opportunity to air their statements publicly and accept accountability for those things I have done’.
LaBeouf explained that he is a ‘sober member of a 12-step program’ and is also undergoing therapy.
‘I am not cured of my PTSD and alcoholism, but I am committed to doing what I need to do to recover, and I will forever be sorry to the people that I may have harmed along the way,’ he stated.
FKA twigs’ attorney Bryan Freedman told Metro.co.uk in a statement: ‘Shia LaBoeuf has abused Ms. Barnett, Ms. [Karolyn] Pho [LaBeouf’s ex-girlfriend also named in lawsuit] and others. We tried to resolve this matter privately on the condition that Mr. LaBeouf agree to receive meaningful and consistent psychological treatment.
‘Since he was unwilling to agree to get appropriate help, Ms. Barnett filed this suit to prevent others from unknowingly suffering similar abuse by him.’
