Okay, Here's Why Travis Scott Doesn't Go by His Real Name
10/29/2019If you’re reading this, I can only assume you were today years old when you found out that Travis Scott’s real name is not, in fact, Travis Scott. I’ll give you a moment to process because truly, it’s like that time the world collectively realized we’d been pronouncing “Chrissy Teigen” wrong this entire time.
In case you didn’t put it together when Stormi Webster was born, Travis’s last name isn’t Scott and his first name definitely isn’t Travis. Our dude’s birth name is actually Jacques Berman Webster II. Which we can all agree is the best e-v-e-r, so congrats to his mom Wanda, and his dad Jacques (yep, it runs in the fam).
So, Why Did Travis Scott Change His Name?
Turns out Travis just wanted to shoutout his favorite uncle. And he said as much to Grantland way back in 2014, explaining, “My uncle’s name is Travis. He was, like, my favorite uncle. My favorite relative. I looked up to him and sh*t.” Meanwhile, Travis told Complex that “Scott” is also a shoutout to his uncle’s nickname.
Fun fact: Travis alludes to his name change in the song “Pray 4 Love” when he sings, “Let me tell the lost tale about Jacques / Let me tell you how I turned Scott / How I went down on the block / Waterfall around ten o’clock.”
And don’t get it twisted—Jacques is still a big part of Travis’s identity and brand. He even released merch featuring his former name:
Cool, But What Does Kylie Call Travis?
I just spent ten minutes of my life mining YouTube for a clip of Kylie saying Travis’s name (trust, it felt like 10 years) and came up short, but she definitely doesn’t call him Jacques on social media. At least judging from this tweet she wrote about their recent breakup:
